Goes in depth in the culture, politics and how its not all about light sabersNo add-in extras (page inserts, ripped pages, etc) available special editions. Most are omitted, or modified. For example the section of ‘path of the chosen one’ is ripped out in special edition, but in this version text blacked outOverall, interesting read. great insight into the Jedi culture with commentary from previous owners

If you have a strong aversion to the EU and any reference to it, you probably won't like this book. If, however, you have been curious to learn more about the Jedi Order, it's trials, specialties, philosophy, etc. this is the book for you.The production quality of this book (for only $12 on Amazon) is really astounding. You get a lot of content for a very good price. There are wonderful illustrations, there are lots of fun and interesting notes in the book from various characters from the movies and EU, and the author shows his considerable knowledge of the Star Wars universe throughout the pages of this book.If I had any criticisms of the book, it would be why would the Jedi still be using a text created a 1000 years before the Battle of Yavin (BBY) around 150-100 BBY? Certainly they have the resources to print more books with regularly revised editions rather than force 5-6 generations of padawans to use their master's old copy? Perhaps that is indicative of how they were set in their old ways and thus didn't adapt to changing circumstances that ultimately led to their undoing when Sidious overthrew them. Also, while most of the notes in the margins are brilliant, some of them could have used a little more work. Sometimes they repeat almost word for word something already in the text, either what the user underlined right next to the comment or a nearly identical phrase appears in the very next paragraph. That is only a minor quibble, however, for most of the notes are well-done and all capture the personality of the character who wrote them very, very well.So, despite the above paragraph inserted for the sake of objectivity, I strongly recommend this book. It is one of those must have guides to the galaxy that go above and beyond and really try to present a faithful in-universe exploration of the Star Wars galaxy (in this sense the book is very similar to the "dewback-hide" covered book about animal life in the Star Wars universe).

This is a really cool concept. I truly wish we lived in a more interesting Universe. Unfortunately, since we do not, we at least have our imaginations and the creative force to construct a Universe where our ideal lives play out in a far more wondrous expanse. While, we do have a history of Knights in our world, these were mostly over weight rich white guys, who bathed only once a year. Couple that with no indoor plumbing and a desperate lack of hygiene and what you have is sweaty, odoriferous, pasty white guys who have never seen deodorant nor a Dentist in their entire lives and you get why JEDI'S who live in the future and bathe regularly are a better ideal to aspire too.I know there are those who prefer the Knights of King Arthur's round table, but I assure you one wiff of these guys after a long hot day jousting; followed by watching them shovel under-cooked, salmonella laden, pork; only to be finished off with observing them rutting with the drunken inn keepers daughters who are all infected with trichomoniasis and I assure their dream of sitting at that round table would die a swift, fast death. Reality has a way of dampening ones fantasy about living in the past. It's almost like the idea of camping as an adult, to the minds eye it seems so idyllic, till you go out and step in a pile of red ants which causes you to then flee right through a large patch of poison oak. Its not till you get into the car screaming take me home that you realize that there are ticks imbedded in your scalp.IF you were a Jedi fan you would have Known that nothing beats a 5 star Hotel with room service and free massages. You see this is the Jedi way. To be a Jedi you understand that the FORCE is always strong in an air-conditioned 3 room sweet with 1500 thread count Egyptian cotton sheets and a mink bed warmer. It says so right in the Jedi Handbook. Darth Vader never slummed and he always flew 1st class on the Empire's dime. This is the Jedi way! May the Force be with you!
