Velociraptor 1TB 10K RPM SATA III 2.5-Inch Internal Hard Drive (WD1000CHTZ)

I am an electrical H/W engineer with 35 years of design experience. Have designed numerous products including networking equipment that uses Sandy Bridge, Ivy Bridge, Haswell and Broadwell Intel embedded processors. This equipment is used at Amazon, Apple, Google and numerous other high end companies. This equipment also uses dual 1TB WD1000CHTZ VelociRaptor hard drives. These drives are "enterprise" class hard drives, meaning that they are high performance and high reliability drives. I don't use the "ice pack" really a waste of space and money. Instead mine are mounted on drive sleds/trays that slide into a quad tray 5 1/4" drive slot. This 5 1/4" quad drive bay has two VERY quiet fans that draw air in from the front, thus very efficiently keeping the drives cool. Drive bay part number is BP-SAC1425AVL 2.5". I clone my hard drives (operating system drive, data drive #1, data drive #2 and data drive #3. That way, when the inevitable virus infection occurs, my MASTER offline operating system drive is cloned back onto my working online drive and the virus is gone. Virus usually infects operating system drive. Having said all this, I have ten of these drives and have had ZERO problems. I use Windows 7 with MBR (not UEFI) boot records on the hard drives, which limits drive size to 2TB, but that is OK. If you have a large hard drive and it fails, you lose lots of data. 1TB seems to be the perfect size. The performance and reliability of this drive is excellent. Yes, they were manufactured in 2013, but new "old stock" that is unused is just as good as the day it was manufactured. That is why this drive is reasonably priced. These drives used to sell for $450, so $135 is a steal.

I bought this hard drive to replace an old HD that was starting to fail. I use this as a secondary HD mainly for video's, music, photo's, etc... and I use a Samsung Pro SSD for my main HD to run all of my programs and games. Overall I am very happy with the drive. It is small, cool, quiet, and fast for a mechanical drive. I never hear this thing spin up so it has been very quiet. However I do have one issue and that is with the stock photo they show above... this drive does not include the 3.5" heat sink like what is shown in the photo and I had to buy that separately for an additional $25.00. Kind of deceiving when they show it in the photo and it doesn't state clearly in the product description. Otherwise still the best mechanical drive you can buy.

I purchased four of these drives. Of the four two seem to be ok, one as showing up as degraded, and one did not work at all.

haven't had it long enough to know if i "love" it (5 stars) but gotta say that the price is right compared to similarly sized SSDs. and on my system, this mechanical drive is as fast as an SSD (Samsung 850 Pro) so win win!

This drive is really fast. If your looking for a great gaming drive look no further than this. the price is so good you can't believer your eyes. If you are going to use this as an internal drive in a 3.5 inch bay you will need to purchase a 2.5 to 3.5 inch adapter.

It may not be able to keep up with SSD, but is a great midline model. Recommend for use as a Data drive when working on large files, as its read/write speeds are great. especially when comparing drive sizes prices on SSDs. Would recommend to people that do video rendering as it doesn't slow you down on performance read/write.

I have a 500GB unit that I love. The idea was to increase my storage space by moving to the 1TB version. The drive arrived without the IceDock as shown in the photo. While that was strike one I could purchase a used one and made it work. I went on line to register the drive with Western Digital and got both strikes 2 & 3. After entering the serial number WD declared the drive could not be registered. Usually this means the drive was sold as part of a system and removed. Also this drive was manufactured in Feb 2014. That makes it a 3 year old drive. While the price is right all that should have been disclosed up front. I don't want I "new" drive that has no warranty. Thankfully Amazon is great about returns.

Works fine. My computer detected the drive straight away and partitioning went smoothly. Amazon charged my card before I could review the order and I didn't realise until it was too late that there would be huge shipping costs, currency transfers and tax added onto it all. $69 turned into $238

At 10k RPM this little thing is fast. I expected it to be noisy but that's not the case at all. Great alternative to SSDs which I have very hit-and-miss experiences, they keep failing faster than my HDDs. Beware though: This drive is taller than a standard 2.5" laptop drive, so it may not fit in all applications.

Ich habe 8 Stück in meinen zwei HP-Servern im Einsatz. Bezahlt habe ich dafür je EUR 200,- brutto. Im RAID 10 schaffen die Platten Schreib- und Leseraten von 250 MB/sec, die Zugriffszeiten liegen auch bei kleinen Dateien deutlich unter 4 ms. Die Platten laufen seit 2 Jahren im Dauerbetrieb absolut zuverlässig und fehlerfrei, für einen Bruchteil des Preises der originalen HP-Platten. Kauftipp!!

Parfaitement emballé pour le transport (contrairement à T*p*ch*t qui empile les disques sans protection dédiée). Ne pas porter crédit à la photo : WD1000CHTZ : version 2.5 WD1000DHTZ : version 3.5 dans un berceau Attention à la perte de garantie si vous retirez le berceau d'une version 3.5 Attention bis : ce n'est pas un disque dur pour portable, il fait 15mm d'épaisseur, c'est pour une station de travail ou pour un serveur de type Dell R610 ou C5220 (le WD9001BKHG, un SAS 10K de 900Go, vaut le double...). Pour un portable préférez le WD7500BPKX, un 7.2K de 750Go qui fait 9,5mm d'épaisseur.

Silencieux et rapide rien a redire dessus. Il n'est pas fourni avec le ice pack donc je le recommande voilà
