Q: Can these be used to place vertically on the side of a mountain and if so, what would you use to fill in gaps?

The outcrop rocks can be used vertically within a diorama setting. To fill in the gaps, I usually use wall joint compound and then paint the entire outcrop so every thing matches. Also, you can take some aluminum foil, crinkle it up, un crinkle it, and fill it with plaster. Then you can use a modeling knife to shape it to fit areas of the gaps you want to fill in.
