Limited appearance of Lion King characters
My daughter loves both books and the Lion King, so I thought this would be a good one to add to her collection. She has a particular fondness for Zazu, who is pictured on the cover with Mufasa and Sarabi, so I thought the book would be about the characters. However, 80% of the story describes the various (anonymous) animals of the Pridelands are called to Pride Rock to view the newborn cub Simba. The Lion King main characters don't appear to the end. The illustrations are well done and colorful, and it shows a good variety of wildlife from the African Savannah, but it doesn't describe the animals except to name them. Zazu does appear in quite a few of these illustrations, appearing to guide the herds and flocks to Pride Rock, but he has no lines and isn't mentioned in the story. If your child likes wildlife pictures, this is a good one, for ages about 2-4.
