Shinwa 15 mm Taper Gauge Stainless Hadened Steel 700a

Honestly, I bought this by accident. That said, I decided to try it before returning it and I am so glad I did. I find it the quickest and easiest way to dermine hole diameter and it is far quicker than breaking out the calipers. This is now on my bench forever.

I fussed with calipers for too long before finding this handy little gauge that makes measuring small metric fastener openings a breeze. Just drop it in the hole, and you know the diameter -- and thanks to the hints printed on the back, it's easy enough to figure out exactly which bolt size is most likely to fit it (Weirdly, it's not always a matter of rounding up, as the "teeth" of a screw may not provide enough grip to create a strong connection). Yes, the price may seem a little high at first glance, but it's saved me plenty of time, and I reach for it often. If you build things that require metric screws or bolts (for instance, 3d printed assemblies), you won't be sorry!
