Great tool for the garden
This tool is aces in my book!! We just moved and to our dismay found that our commt’y was built on rich quarry!!! Needed to dig rocks out and this tool has been incredibly reliable. Well made, sturdy, good size and handling… Get it, you’ll love it, too!

Solid little cutter mattock, excellent for small jobs in tight spots
15" overall, just under 10" head length, 15oz head, 8oz handle. The cutter blade is just slightly longer than the mattock blade. I gave it a quick trial, then took it to my bench sander to slightly re-profile and sharpen the edges. I used a 220 grit belt and a can of water to keep the steel cooled. Fast and easy tune-up, then a fast and easy removal of a shrub's root wad in a tight corner between a wall, a fence, a retaining wall, and other plantings. Great tool for short swings in a tight spot. The tool has a good grip and a solid handle. The handle is narrow, as it has to be to fit thru the eye in the toolhead. I use 2.5 lb and 5 lb full length cutter mattocks frequently in forestry work. This little guy might even make it up to the woods. I could stick it in my tool belt when I'm packing a chainsaw but might need to grub out something in the shrub category. It is a real tool.

UPDATED: Good Small Cutter Mattock for the Price
PRE-REVIEW NOTE: I had originally posted a one star review for this product because it was much different than what was pictured on the website at the time - photos showed the mattock head locking to the very top of the handle, and another showed a full size mattock being swung over a guys head. After I posted the review, the seller contacted me and told me the photos were wrong and that he corrected them. When I checked he had corrected most, but had left the one with the full size tool up inadvertently. Once I contacted him about that he fixed it. He also refunded my purchase price since I was unhappy with the product. The one negative thing I will say about my interaction with the seller is that he tried to guilt me into removing my review, which is why it took me so long to change it - as a rule I will not change honest reviews at the seller's request. However, the owner in this case did fix the misleading aspects of the product description, and the issues in my original review no longer apply to this product. On to the updated review: **************************************************************************************************************************** As long as you know what you are actually ordering this is a great little cutter mattock for the price. The key word here is "little" - it is slightly larger than a standard hammer, so it is more for gardening and getting through roots of smaller trees and bushes than it is for removing a full size stump. The dimensions of the product are clearly given, and the erroneous pictures were removed, so anyone ordering should know what they are getting if paying attention. The tool is light and easy to use in tight spaces, which is key if you are doing landscaping in a garden bed. You can easily operate it with one hand, which makes it much easier to get at the roots of a bush that is surrounded by others. The head is sharp enough for getting through most roots, but could stand to be sharpened a bit. I am taking one star off because of a little concern about the mechanism for mounting the head. The mattock comes in 2 pieces and you attach the head by sliding it up the mattock until it stops. However, there is no notch or other mechanism to secure the head - you just bang it on the ground to mount it. This is not specific to this mattock - I've seen other less expensive ones that do the same thing, but I am able to still remove the head pretty easily after putting it on, which makes me concerned that it could come loose during use. I solution I have seen on similar tools was to install small wood screws right underneath the bottom of the head after it is installed. Overall an excellent cutter mattock for gardening needs for the price!

Will do its job.
My husband got the 26" axe for me as a surprise gift. It's the perfect shaft length and weight for my short arms. I Blade cover arrived in one piece, but seems big for the blade. The blade itself is sharp and cut through several pieces of Alderwood. Will definitely do the job its intended for, which is as an emergency tool alongside a shovel for fire suppression, when I'm in the woods during the summer(and in case the road is blocked by a small tree). My favorite part of it is the bright green color.

Well balanced and light.
This tool is light weight and easy to swing with one hand multiple times. Just what I was searching for to dig down into the soil to remove the roots of weeds in the flower gardens. I have a 36" handle pickaxe that I use for heavy duty work but that tires me out fast. This is perfect size and weight. It should last many years if you take proper care of your tools and don't leave them out in the rain for extended time. The balance seems very good. You have to assemble the head onto the handle when you get it but that is an easy 20 second job. Smack the head onto the handle with a mallet and you are good to go. My wife likes the weight of this also. She can easily use this pickaxe over the heavy 36" one.

Smaller than you think. Hand held like a hammer.
Nice item but thought would be like a swingng pick axe. This is a hand one for gardening or something. Trying to use to get a stump/bush out is tough. The steel part fallls down or just sticks at the top on a rubber handle.

Don't cheap out...you'll be sorry you did.
the 36 inch axe: Dull as can be. This axe won't chap a worm. There is NO EDGE on this axe and It would take hours to profile the edge and then sharpen the blade. Also the plastic protector was missing. All in all the quality is rubbish. Returning for refund and buying a Fiskars. The 15 inch axe: Also very dull with chips out of the blade edge like it had been dropped before the protector was placed on it. The edge is so messed up I am not willing to re-profile it. This is something even the cheapest axes I've looked at in stores have. A sharp cutting edge. I'm sending them both back and buying a Fiskars. Never had an issue with their products yet. Don't cheap out...you'll be sorry you did

Best gardening tool I ever owned.

This axe was put to use the very first time that we took it off-roading with us. This summer, we're going on a 15,000km road trip and a lot of it will be completely on our own. We trust this axe.

Loved this tool for digging out stumps, small enough to get in around and under the roots to loosen up packed soil. These were absolute lifesavers! I'd noticed a few reviews said the head comes off the handle but if attached properly, it stays. Video attached to show the best way we found to get the head seated tightly to the handle. Stayed put through the whole job, and we were NOT easy on this thing either! Would definitely recommend!
