If you are considering this - just do it. You'll be delighted you did.
We had to move to the far western exurbs of Chicago so that my husband wouldn't have a two-hour-each-way commute to his job. Right off the bat after moving into our new place, I noticed the different taste in the water, as we are now on well water. I had never encountered well water: Chicago is lake water, and Minneapolis is reservoir water (or so I am told) - and the well water way out here just didn't sit right with me. We took to filling pitchers with water and leaving them in the fridge for a day just so I could drink without gagging from the taste (and the minor odor). But that was all the thought I gave the water. This past November, I went and stayed with my parents in Indianapolis for almost a month...and that is when I noticed that after showering daily there for a couple of weeks, my hair was softer, more cooperative re: styling, and also, I just *felt* cleaner. And that, finally, is when I put it all together. The same day I returned home, I reported all of this to my husband, who immediately connected the rest of the dots: the minerals in the well water were probably the culprit for all of my complaints about taste, odor, hair being weird, and just never "feeling right".So off to Amazon we went, and after reading about multiple options - as well as my husband researching other sites - we settled on this as our first foray into seeing if filtering the water out here would make any difference.Well....man oh man! - it DOES. This shower filter is the BEST thing we could have done. It was very easy and quick to install, and both of us noticed after our first showers using this that we just FEEL cleaner. And I am noticing - now that we've had this for a couple of weeks - that my hair is no longer as dry and "brittle" as it had been.So kudos to WaterChef for making this, and now that this little "test" has proven out, and revealed that yep, the water out here really is different from what we are used to, we are now looking into getting a water filter for our kitchen tap so that I can once again enjoy drinking water without having to first let it sit for a day in the fridge.Bottom line - if you are looking at shower filters, and reading this review, you are probably someone like me: someone who never had this situation before, and couldn't/can't be sure that it's not "just you"...and aren't sure if a filter will make any difference...or were/are thinking that you'll adapt over time.... Well, forget that. You are almost certainly right in your suspicions, and yes, it probably IS the water (not you). So just try this out, as we did - it's strong odds that you'll keep it and be very happy that you now have it.

Noticeable difference, and great customer service!!!
We've had this WaterChef product for about 3 months, and during use, it's easily noticeable for my wife and I to smell - in this case - the absence of chlorine in the steamed air. I would say the effect on skin is perhaps less noticeable, but knowing that the chlorine is being filtered out, it's worth the health benefits. For those that don't know about NSF certification, NSF International [...] is an internationally recognized organization that, among other functions, performs audits, certifies individual products, and develops standards for health specifications. You can rest assured that, having been qualified, this product has been tested and verified to reduce the harmful chorines in tap water.I have had experience (2+ years) with another shower filter (Aquasana) before this one, and the effect of that was very similar. The reason we changed was because (whether it was normal wear & tear or slightly weak plastic construction) the housing ended up cracking and breaking. It was made with plastic, so I'm hoping the WaterChef may hold up better. Now I've also had a unique situation, wherein customer service comes into play. The shower's pipe from the wall ended up breaking off at the threading going into this product's housing (the pipe was definitely old), and there was no way for me to be able to get it out (I went to Home Depot just to check if it was possible). On the off-chance that I could get some assistance from the WaterChef people, I contacted them, sent them a picture, and explained the situation. I will clarify here that this was no fault of the product, and I also let them know that I wasn't blaming them. In any case, a customer service representative quickly contacted me, and offered to send me a replacement for the housing at no charge to myself. Excellent, excellent customer service. As a last word, I will say that, having had to use a shower the past week or so without filtration, it is easy for us to notice the chlorine smell again. This product is definitely worth it.

Updated
The media could not be loaded. After purchasing once and being let down because the thing leaked immediately. I decided to give it 1 more chance concluding it was a factory error. After installing the second filter I was happy I did give it another chance. The pressure is great and everything is sealed up nicely with no leaks. I like how easy the filter is to change and how it is a sleek design that is very functional without taking up too much space in the shower. I would give it 5 stars if they had a range of filters with more filtering capabilities.

Makes hair very soft
This handheld shower head with filter was very easy to install. I've noticed when I wash my hair that my hair feels so much softer than it did before. Am very happy with my purchase.
