🎃🐈🤔surprised the ratings arent higher..REALLY IT CAN BE 2 DIFF MOVIES, DEP. ON YOUR EXPERIENCE...
So i loved it, and will likely buy it when its under 10bux as id watchYearly...The low reviews steered me away, even when on my free trialOf a channel... Glad i gave it a shot!🎃Its not a gorefest/ slasher/ jumpfest so if thats your thing..pass..It IS slower burn yet i couldnt bring myself to pause it to go pee bcI kept feelin like something was comin any second ( and it usually was...They did a great job of holding the dreaded suspense yet giving youA morsel often )Id sum it up as super creepy suspensful, with the enduring dread ofHereditary.. If thats your vibe, you'll dig it...And read no more, just watch it..🐈SPOILER.. and why i think some love itAnd others aren't quite gettin it...First off, even though i look for diff meanings in theseI often still look it up after watching to see ifI FULLY got what they were goin for..idk, maybeIm just too dumb to get ALL the nuances myself..While i did get the jist of it, after reading more,It occurred to me Why this really stuck with me..Its not Just a movie bout aging.. More specificallyIts about aging with dementia... That's a whole differentThing! .. Having lived that with my own mom,( multi infarct dementia) i trulyGet it!! ..i also get that theres absolutely no way youCould really, fully get it unless you've been there.....So, when i think back.. Would i have understood itAt all the same way before going through that? No..not at all... Even when you read up, or peopleTell you what to expect.. They never describe the part of it that this movieDepicts.. Sure they tell you about how the brain declines, and someOdd behaviors emerge, but they don't ever mention the rest..There is a dread ( the black mold) that starts toTinge every aspect..Subtle at first, then pretty claustrophobicAnd overwhelming.. Its almost unnoticeable at first while yourTrying to plot n plan the plan of action.. Then youRealize it shades everything, and as much as you try toGo on with the rest of life as normal, it overshadowsEvery aspect...There are Really moments of terror, momentsOf disgust, as the person you knew forever becomesSomething else ( and i say something bc there are momentsThat it can seem they aren't even like a person..) Yup..i know that sounds awful to say..Its even worse to experience it, but it is the truth that nobody really tells you....and even with all that, when that person glares at YOU with disdain( as Robyn does so perfectly!).. you love them and feel bad for them..Its a weird experience, and i think this was an amazing representation..💀,overall, they blended That with a paranormalVibe that was pretty clever..I enjoyed it as a standalone creeper, as well as for itsDeeper meaning.. I will be watching it yearly as i do a lot of my collection🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃

Not my type
I will say it is well-made, but it’s just that my type of movie I don’t really know what I was expecting but for me it was just a little too slow to keep my interest does that I need a lot of excitement in my movies. This one just didn’t seem to grab me.

Great movie - got some real House of Leaves stuff going on
The acting, characters, plot, and special FX were all great. I don't want to spoil anything, but when they pull the rug out from under your assumptions, the real answer is amazing, clever, not often done, and very well rendered. I wish the movie could have spent less time on the build-up and more time in the Twilight Zone, but how would that even work? Luckily, the characters are interesting enough that the story never becomes boring - you never feel like you're WAITING for the paranormal swerve. I wish there could be another movie to explore the premise further, but maybe that's for the best. If you like the uncanny, impossible architecture, and fear of the almost familiar, you will enjoy this movie

Fantastic screenplay
Natalie Erika James did a great job at directing this movie, and everyone who was a part of the production did a great job as well.About the movie:It is a scary movie. Some people may not find it to be crazy scary, others might find it scary enough.I never felt the need to skip ahead, which I usually don't, but this movie didn't make me feel like it was too slow.Every scene plays a part of the story and either reveals, or leads you to investigate while you watch. It doesn't just hand you the information you want right away. This movie requires you to answer some of your own questions. I have never had a movie do this to me before.I think the climax to this movie was one of the most moving experiences I've ever had from a horror film.I also think that the symbolism at the end was very very good. The end events leading to the ending of the movie was probably my favorite part of the story.Anyway, I give it 5 stars. I don't want to provide too many details about how good each part of the movie is so as to not spoil it. That's up to you guys. I just want the director to know that this is one of the best films I've ever seen in this genre.5/5 for camera positioning.5/5 for centerpiece focus (I don't know cinematographic terms)5/5 for acting5/5 for execution of suspense/horror tropes5/5 for story5/5 for setting quality5/5 for dream sequence executionI don't know what else to add 5/5's for.

Mom's A'Peeling
I needed to write something about this movie because of all the rude reviews. This is not a movie for a twelve-year-old or anybody that is just looking for a horror movie it's a bit more complex than that. Also it's got women in it and it's women centered so if you don't like that you won't like this movie.Anyway you could look at this movie strictly as a metaphor for aging and alzheimers and loss but if that's what this movie is about, then they should have left off the peeling mom part, but that's just my opinionthere was plenty of good stuff in the movie I love the actresses but there was a bit of a conflict I think between being metaphorical and including some horror elements that just didn't really fit in. However definitely worth a watch if you are a mature person, most certainly not a lifetime movie as someone suggested in the comments

Was it the transfer?
Review for the DVD of "Relic" (ASIN: B08MWB4XGQ).I am tempted to award "Relic" one star, but am reluctant to do so because there are far too many one star reviews on the basis that the reviewer simply didn't find it interesting and stating something like "Boring" or "Waste of money" etc.Well "Relic I would say is neither or those two things but (and here's my problem with "Relic"). If the director wanted the film to look like what I was looking at, then definitely two stars and probably only one star from me.Now I know there are people who will say that where a review such as this is concerned that it should be about the film and nothing else, but I'd have to disagree (as I have stated the format and the ASIN quite deliberately at the start of the review). What I was looking at, was for much of the film - hardly anything, that is to say there was hardly anything discernable on the screen. If a light was put on in the house it looked like it illuminated the room about as much as if one lit a match. The few scenes that were outside were also very dull (brightness- wise).Within a few minutes of starting to watch the film, I switched the lights of and watched the film in a darkened room (much like what was shown on screen for most of the film!).So, did director Natalie Erika James intend "Relic" to look like what I was looking at? Well I've since looked at a trailer on IMDb and on Google and yes it would seem that what I saw was how it was meant to be.Before anyone says I should in that case have watched a trailer, well I prefer to know as little as possible about a film, often attracted to it because of the cast or director etc and that was the case with "Relic" as in Emily Mortimer being in the cast. Maybe though, if you are thinking of watching this film you might want to check out a trailer. As for the film well it's a shame because better lit it would have been an easier film to follow for me and probably more enjoyable and possibly in line with all those five star reviews from the likes of "The Observer" and "The Daily Telegraph" as quoted on the cover of the DVD.On the DVD (ASIN: B08MWB4XGQ) you get:"Relic" (1 hour 29 minutes)Scene SelectionSet Up:Surround Sound 5.1, Stereo 2.0Optional English Subtitles

Great film, poor Bluray
I wont critic the film here apart from saying I could of really enjoyed it but for the truly appalling bluray transfer. This has got to be the worst I have ever seen. The false contours in the dark scenes were overwhelming, I spent the first twenty minutes trying to adjust the picture on my TV. In all honesty you would be better off just streaming it. I've seen better picture quality on dvd rips on YouTube. The company that put this out should be ashamed of themselves. I dont usually review films, but I felt I had to say something in this case. Interesting film spoiled by terrible transfer.

Creeping Death
Relic is brilliant. Not Peter Hyams' museum-based 90s monster horror, but an intriguing new Australian film about dread - fear of death and fear of the decay that might set in as the end nears us. This one is anchored by a fantastic performance from Robyn Nevin, as the once-great matriarch stricken with Alzheimer's Disease, whose house seems to be falling apart at exactly the same rate, and may actually be driving the change, and the desperate yet futile efforts of her daughter, played brilliantly by our own Emily Mortimer, and her granddaughter, played by Bella Heathcote, to reimpose some normality or even just help in the simplest of ways. Don't watch this movie if you're expecting jump scares or sudden shocks - like dementia itself, Relic is about the creeping inevitability of a sad end and the powerlessness of those left behind. I found this one particularly resonated with me. It's not an easy watch, but it's never boring, and considering it is director Natalie Erika James' first film, I think it's safe to say she's got a very interesting future ahead of her - 8 horrific things in the walls out of 10.

Okay but not exceptional
I bought this DVD, because I thought Jake Gyllenhaal also played in this movie. Besides this film wasn't available anymore on Netflix. The film starts well and we get this eerie feeling of uneasiness. The ending is good, but it leaves unanswered questions. Furthermore the picture quality of this DVD is not that good. The resolution is a bit too low and overal the film is very dark. Sometimes I can't exactly see what's going on on the screen.

Drama not horror
This is a drama not a horror,a mother/grandmother goes missing , her daughter + granddaughter go to investigate were she is etc when she returns she does,nt know where she,d been . She is scared and forgetful, basically it's about old age , alzeimers, our fears of the unknown etc
