Great Product, Great Packaging, Excellent Customer Service!
I am new to DE shaving and recently purchased the Lather and Wood Pre-Shave Oil and After-Shave Balm. At first I wasn't quite sure what to expect with the product and I was in such a rush to try it out I didn't even think to read the instructions on how to properly apply the oil. I ended up adding the oil to a dry face and lathered on my shave cream with a dry boar brush... I would not recommend either. Let's just say my first shave with a DE blade was a little underwhelming. However, after reading a little and watching some videos on YouTube it became much better. The bottle has instructions on it which, if read, lead to a great pre-shave setup. Lightly wet your face with warm water and apply a small amount of oil to your hands and work into your beard making sure to cover every area in which you plan on shaving. Lather up and shave! This oil has been great. The container and pump are exceptional and it gives out jus enough oil per pump for a good clean shave without worrying about using too much or wasting it. Once applied, it allows the blade to smoothly glove over your beard without any tugging or pulling. It is not too thick and will not clog up your blade. The oil does a great job in lasting through multiple passes as well. My two favorite things about this oil are the fact that it is unscented, and it's quality. Lather and Wood uses high quality ingredients which is evident in the quality of the shave one will get using their products. When using this pre-shave oil I do not have to worry about any razor burn or ingrown hairs. I have shaved with and without this pre-shave oil with a single pass and with multiple passes and every time I use Lather and Wood's pre-shave oil my shave is much better. I was contacted by Lather and Wood after my purchase to check with my satisfaction with their product. It's very clear that Lather and Wood cares about their product and the experience their customers have with it. Phenomenal customer service. Another reason I will continue to be use their products and recommend them. I highly recommend this product and will be keeping it as a part of my regular shaving routine and will encourage my friends and family to add it to theirs!

Buy this shave oil!
A couple of years ago I was in Las Vegas attending CES. During a rare occurrence of some down time, I roamed the Shops at Caeasr's and stumbled upon a well-known "artsy" shave store. Well, on impulse I paid way too much for a bottle of after shave from said shop. One of the perks, however, was that I received a few free samples of their shave oil... I'd never used shave oil before, but recently was gifted a nice badger hair brush, a shaving mug and some nice soap. Why not try shaving oil as well? I quickly went through the samples and was impressed by how much better my shave was. Fast forward to a few weeks ago. I hadn't actually bought any shaving oil from the artsy shaving store, but wanted to give it another shot. Knowing how much I'd paid for the cologne, I started looking around for something that had great reviews, but without the added cost. That brought me to Lather & Wood. And let me tell you, I couldn't be happier. First, the sandalwood scent is pleasing but not overpowering. Next, the oil is not too...oily. It washes off well, but holds my shaving soap perfectly. My safety razor -- I use the one my dad used, so it's probably 70 years old -- glides over my face. And the shave itself? Flawless. PLUS my skin is so much smoother when I'm done. Later & Wood is easily as good as what I could have gotten from that other place, but it's probably half the cost. I like to pamper myself, but I'm not willing to spend a fortune to do it. Later & Wood fits the bill, giving me a great, smooth and burn-free shave without breaking the bank. Plus the sandalwood scent lingers just long enough...I honestly couldn't have chosen better.

Pumped a couple of pumps of the oil and applied it on face and left it for 5 minutes and the sandal wood aromotherapy is nice. T
I am a daily shaver and my routine is shave immediately after brushing, and I use a Gillette or Nivea Shaving gel and use the Gillette razors. I landed on this product when I was searching on a after shave product. I bought their after shave lotion and will be writing a separate review on it. Been using it for more than a week before I wanted to write a review. Getting the reminder from the Lather & wood shaving company on this. Oil Only: Pumped a couple of pumps of the oil and applied it on face and left it for 5 minutes and the sandal wood aromotherapy is nice. The shave was smooth and the razor glided smoothly and got a good shave but nothing special to mention on shaving experience itself. (Not much of a difference using the gel). One thing worth mention is the post shave left me moisturised compared to gel alone. I have used Castor oil and when compared to castor oil shave this is not close, But the blade is clean when compared to castor oil. Post shave the sandal wood smell still lingers Oil + Gel Same applied the oil 5 minutes before shave and massaged face. After 5 minutes appplied the gel and lathered my face and started shaving. Again the shave was smooth and the razor glided smoothly and got a good shave but nothing special to mention on shaving experience itself. (Not much of a difference using the gel only). Post shave Worth mention is the post shave left me moisturised compared to gel alone. Even after the shower the oil smoothness still is present. The sandalwood smell weans off post shower. The blde is much cleaner than oil alone. The bristle comes up next day, so it is not a real real clean shave like using the shaving knifes/blades.

A tad pricey but good stuff
I just switched from cartridge shaving to wet shaving with a DE razor. Normally I would not care what I soaped up with and I would lather up a regular soap or some head shampoo and shave with that. But with the DE razor I don't recommend that so I was looking in to various products before trying this. And I must say that shaving is MUCH more enjoyable now, it smells good, feels nice shaving and less irritation afterwards from the razor. There is no going back to the cartridge shaving again and a more cleaner and smoother shave you cant get without waxing. So I am very satisfied, my only wish is that these products were a tad bit cheaper, but in some cases you get what you pay for, and with this you pay for good stuff where a little actually goes far.

It's the start to my morning shave/aroma therapy session.
I started shaving with a DE razor about 2 weeks ago, so I bought this the day after I received my razor. I use a 3 or 4 pass shave depending on how difficult my stubble is being. I love the Sandalwood scent and it does a good job on the first pass, but it's pretty much gone after that. I face lather, and I think that the shave soap tends to bind with the oil and washes it away. However, that's OK because I get the oil on the first pass and after that, there's enough lubrication from the shave soap that subsequent passes are well lubricated. Note that the scent is gone as soon as I lather my face, however, this could be used without lather. I spent 35 years shaving with nothing but water and dull disposable twin blade razors, and the day I got my Muhle R89, I shaved with nothing but water. However, my blade assortment came with some shave soap that I never intended to use - why would I after 35 years of using nothing but water - besides, my first shave with the R89 and Astra blade was really close and I had no razor burn or nicks, so why spend money on all these extra products? I haven't needed them for 35 years and I had no intention of spending more money than I needed to on this nonsense, after all, shaving was a chore and the only reason I was switching to the DE razor was that all the disposable twin blades at my local stores came with that lubricating slime that I just could not stand. I wasn't switching to a DE razor to save money or anything else, I just wanted to shave without the lubricating slime and it seemed that a good way to do that was to switch to a DE razor. Boy, have I been foolish for the last 35 years! Out of curiosity, I decided to smell the shave soap puck after my first shave was complete. It smelled so good that I realized that this whole DE shaving thing is more like a man's version of a bubble bath and I wanted to go all in. It's changed my whole morning routine and now I just love the smells of my morning shave, it's like aroma therapy! I've been missing out on all this for the last 35 years! Well, I'm all in now and I just love my morning shave and this pre-shave oil is the first aroma therapy treatment of my morning shave. The fact that it lubricates the first pass is a bonus! One thing to note - this oil works better if you wet your face before applying it and you only need 1 squirt, 2 squirts is way too much. I tried using it with my face dry, but it tended to absorb into my skin and wasn't quite as lubricating. I believe the water forces the oil to stay on top and keeps it from absorbing into the skin. I also bought the Lather & Wood sandalwood after shave balm at the same time I bought this - I did a review of that product as well.

Buy It, You'll Like It!
I was trying to find a good, clean-smelling, aftershave balm that soothed the skin after shaving. Looking at all the great reviews on the Lather and Wood products, even I thought the price for a 2 oz. bottle was a little high, I thought I would give it a try. After getting my first bottle, I tried it after a shave. As the reviews noted, 3 or 4 pumps from the bottle should be enough, so that is what I tired, and that is about the right amount (although I will use 5-6 pumps if my skin feels really dry). The first thing I noticed was the scent. I was a little skeptical of the sandalwood scent, as I have tried other products that were sandalwood scented, the scent was very artificial and did not smell good at all. The sandalwood scent of the L&W balm is a nice clean, masculine, “woody”, smell, that you can definitely smell, but is not overpowering. The balm goes on nice and smooth, soothes any razor burn or minor cuts, and moisturizes, without being oily or greasy. I have used the after shave balm on my face after getting mild wind and sun burn and it really takes the sting out. I like the scent so much, I find myself using it just for the heck of it. The wife likes the smell too. I also just recently ordered the pre-shave oil. It has the same nice sandalwood scent at the after-shave balm, although it is not as strong. I followed the directions, used it after a shower with my face wet, and used my normal shave cream on top of the shave oil. It definitely helps give me a closer shave and I don’t get the razor burn or nicks I normally get with shaving cream alone. I highly recommend it.

... moved over to a straight razor as it was recommended to use an oil in conjunction with a cream ...
I started using this product when I moved over to a straight razor as it was recommended to use an oil in conjunction with a cream to avoid nicks, cuts, and irritation from improper shaving. The reason I chose this product over others is because it is made with quality natural ingredients that have a ton of positive benefits. My girlfriend picked up the bottle and read the ingredients and was also impressed with the list as she is also a firm believer in the benefits of using natural products. This oil works perfectly as a preshave treatment, infact when I'm in a hurry I will typically only use this oil for shaving and have never had a problem with irritation or minor nicks. Just spread a few drops over my face, let it set for about 20-30 seconds while I set up my blades, and my shavette glides over my face effortlessly removing all my stubble and collecting it on the blade to be easily wiped off or rinsed off. Many disposable blade companies treat their blades with a product to help with shaving that can be removed by wiping off on a towel between strokes, and I think this oil helps to maintain that effect every time. This means I get more effective uses out of my disposable blades as well. The ingredients are all natural and great for your skin, the product helps get more uses out of disposable blades and provides a more effective shave with less irritation, and the scent is amazing. Cannot recommend this product enough.
