New Anchor Book of Crewelwork Embroidery Stitches

I like the larger format of this book. The previous edition was very small. The instructions are very clear. It's a good start for a beginner.

I'm not sure why one reviewer is so negative here. New Anchor Books are well-presented and clear. I have several including: New Anchor Book of Blackwork Embroidery Stitches The New Anchor Book of Hardanger Embroidery Stitches New Anchor Book of Pulled Thread Embroidery Stitches New Anchor Book of Freestyle Embroidery Stitches The New Anchor Book of Canvaswork Stitches and Patterns (New anchor books) The Anchor Book of Counted Thread Embroidery Stitches (The Anchor Book Series) You can see for yourself in the Look Inside feature above how clear the illustrations are. That feature does not show close-ups of the projects but that's probably intentional and not an oversight. If you're interested in dipping your toe in crewelwork, this would be a good start.

Bad illustrations of finished needlework. Primitive and childish - and they don't even look very well done. I don't know how someone purporting to produce an instructional book can be taken seriously with such examples of embroidery on display! If you want a book on crewel stitches by Anchor go for the older edition in the little square format.

This is a great book. I am just starting to learn Crewel work and need clear and easy to understand instructions and this book delivers. The pictures make sense and I bought some cheaper threads and material to start practising the many different types of stitches that are demonstrated in this book. It also has lots of really nice projects which are fun to do and let you test out the stitiches. This is a far better way to learn when you have a completed project to follow rather than just text. Also this book is over ten years old I think it is far better than a lot of the newer books, a few which I already have. I would recommend this book.

Anchor books are all very good. Illustrations clear instructions easy to follow
