Absolutely recommend this entire series!! Most recognize the names of Boelcke, Immelmann and Richthofen-But most impressed with Otto Parschau. In this volume, Otto Bernert-a name familiar to First Air War enthusiasts, but not much reliable background on him...His 'bayonet-wounds' an example of something that's been 'all over the map'...Ditto von Althaus(volume 3) and his 'eyesight'...Looking forward to Gontermann and Peter Strasser-The Leader of Airships!!!Keep 'em coming Lance, along with Aeronautbooks' Jack Herris!!!

It can be difficult to write about someone who died too young and whose fame was brief. There may not be much to go on. Nevertheless, the author has excelled in meeting the challenge here. Many rare works have been consulted to offer a biography as complete as possible for each ace. The text is further complimented by a generous selection of rare photographs beautifully reproduced and sized for study. Additionally, color aircraft profiles by Bob Pearson accompany an account of the aircraft flown by the ace. To complete the coverage on each ace, a timeline of significant events, awards and victories is included. German terminology is translated throughout which allows one to easily enjoy the narrative. For the reader with a more advanced interest in matters, the original German text of quoted material appears in endnotes. An index, bibliography and glossary complete the book. The Blue Max Airmen series is what I wish I had when my interest was kindled.

Another volume of a fantastic series on these fine aviators. Well researched and accompanied with great photos, many of which I haven't seen before. Highly recommended!
