Finally! Some nice shorts!
I'm 6'1" and 230 lbs. I ordered the 38" waist with the 12" long inseam. They fit perfectly on me. I didn't even need to unbutton them or the belt, I just pulled them up.The material is exactly what I wanted; light weight, breathable and tough. The stitching seems good and the zippers are quality as well. The belt is pretty standard but quality. Yes. The belt can be easily removed just like any other belt so you can use your own or none at all.The button is the type that you push through a slit on the opposite side, which is MUCH sturdier than a snap style. Especially for shorts that will be potentially used for climbing or Hiking or whatever. There's a proper amount of pockets too. All of which are deep and not the useless shallow kind. The front cargo style pockets are flat faced for a slightly more dressed up look. This is actually good because they're nice enough looking that they can work with a nice button up and worn to a casual dinner or the like. At the same time you could've recently scaled up a hillside and tromped through a river bed then dried off and no one would be the wiser. LolFrankly, I've been looking for this type of short that DIDN'T have the big diaper sized cargo pouch. LolI wanted something a bit nicer but still utilitarian and these fit the bill perfectly. The 12" inseam is perfect for my height as well.I personally don't like the way shorts that sit above the knee look. These are also a slightly better looking cut to, so they don't billow out and leave you swimming in baggy short legs. They are a slimmer cut without being restrictive at all.All in all, these are the best casual, utilitarian Hiking style shorts I've found, especially for the money.I highly recommend them.

Very nice heavy duty shorts with well thought out design
I ordered several different brands of nylon shorts hoping to find the perfect ones and while this was the first pair I received, I can't see how they could be much better.Pluses-Heavy duty, not flimsy and feels like it will really last.Wide belt with somewhat easy to use buckle(see negatives for what I mean by "somewhat").Cargo pockets blend in nicely, not puffy and pants while heavy duty, don't necessarily look so.Nice deep front pockets, unlike many other pants I've tried. While I wasn't really looking for "stretchy" nylon as I previously had a pair that after a year of use started to look ratty with white spandex threads poking through the nylon and looking weird and even somewhat lose, these pants didn't seem to stretch as much and hopefully will hold up better than my other pants.Nice packaging, they even come in a clear and cloth zippered bag.Negatives-Somewhat heavy for nylon shorts, don't order these if looking for something very lightweight for say backpack canoeing or traveling very light, for those purposes I'd suggest "non stretchy" nylon shorts. The buckle is somewhat an odd design and unlike any other webbed belt I have this one you pull up on the right side of the buckle, not the left(when looking down at buckle) and because of this, it's a bit harder to adjust but not terrible. Other reviewers complained about the belt being flimsy or easily broken, I haven't had it that long but while it doesn't seem like a super heavy-duty belt, it doesn't seem flimsy either.Cargo pockets are somewhat wide and while some may think this is a positive for maximum room I generally don't like that because I use one for carrying my cell phone and one for my wallet, where I don't need them to be so wide. The problem with wide cargo pockets with a cell phone is it gives room for the cell phone to tip over to its side making the phone sit horizontal on the bottom of the pocket. As the phone is quite long that way it feels uncomfortable stretching around my leg. The good news is the way the pocket has a slight backwards tilt to it's design, for the most part my phone doesn't tip over and kudos to the designers, it makes this wide pocket workable for my cell phone without it tipping over. All in all these these seem to be very well-made and designed nylon cargo shorts, somewhat true to size. As they stretch I'm happy it came with a belt as when you fully stretch the elastic waist they are probably 2" larger than the regular-sized pants I wear of the same size but as long as the elastic holds up I probably wouldn't need the belt. I guess what I'm trying to say is if you are in between sizes, I'd probably stick to the smaller size as they don't run small and do stretch. Oh and for the leg length, mine is 10" and sits just about at the knee. I probably would have liked it to be a tad shorter as these sometimes catch on my knee when I bend my knees, it's not really that bad and really depends on the length of your leg and where the pants sit on your waist.Update-After several days of wearing the pants without washing they have stretched a bit and no longer stay up without sinching the belt. It's one of the reason I don't really like "stretchy" nylon pants as they tend to loosen or get larger with wear. Note I'm guessing after a washing they may shrink back down to a more normal size but honestly I'd have preferred they were just normal nylon, not stretchy. Because of this I'd strongly suggest purchasing a pair 2" smaller than your actual normal fit(not loose fit) jeans or pants, I wish I would have. I guess if you think your waist may get bigger then I guess order your regular size.Another positive I forgot to mention in my initial review is the very wide tunnel-like belt loops, I really like them. With some of my other pants, especially loose ones that tend to fall down without a belt and I carry things in the pocket, the pants sag in areas not right near the belt loops looking weird. These tube belt loops really help in this aspect but I noticed some other reviewers disliked the tube loops as it makes feeding the belt through the tubes more difficult but as I never really plan on taking the belt out, or at least regularly, I'll take the tube loops, just kinda wish the pants material wasn't stretchy. If you ever need to replace the belt for whatever reason and like the design, I found out by ordering a "Mile High Life" nylon web belt off Amazon that they are the exact belt included with these shorts, exactly the same.Update-I really wish I'd ordered sizing 2" smaller as now the pants wouldn't really stay up without the belt. Not a big deal as I always use the belt but you should know this before ordering.Oh and I received the 2 other different brand cargo shorts after my review of these and one I ended up returning because I liked these so much better for their design and I kept the Columbia nylon shorts because they might look a little dressier and are also only 9.4oz and these are 15.3oz(both weights for my size) and I thought they'd be nicer for very light packing, the Columbias aren't stretch nylon which is why I believe they are so much lighter but the Columbias were more expensive and didn't have as nicely designed nor deep pockets as these Free Soldier shorts.

Almost perfect - belt downgrade
I got 2 pairs of these shorts some time ago. I loved them enough that I just got 2 more pairs. With the older shorts, I liked everything about them. They are very comfortable, a great stretchable material but it also seems to shed water well and looks like good quality material. It's also tough material, no worries of catching a snag and ripping the shorts. The fit is very nice. They look great. The pockets have a good capacity without looking like bulky cargo shorts pockets. The one issue I have with the new pairs is the belt. The old shorts had a simple clip belt. It worked well, was very convenient and the extra length was just the right length to tuck into the belt loop and be out of the way. The new belt is the negative opposite of all of those things. It doesn't clip, you need to thread it through the buckle. It's hard to adjust and get the fit right. There is way too much excess, to the point it's annoying and in the way. I hope they go back to the old belt and wish I could get a couple replacement belts of the old style for my new shorts. Instead, I'll probably be swapping out belts because I just can't see myself being comfortable with the new ones.

Muy buenos
Mejor de lo que esperaba, me ajustan muy bien estoy muy contento con la compra, el único pero, es que el cinturón no es muy funcional y el espacio en donde viene es muy angosto por lo que es difícil remplazarlo por otro.

Simplemente me encantó. Es muy cómodo y resistente. Es repelente al agua y cumple a la perfección con esta característica. La talla se ajusta muy bien. Definitivamente lo compraría de nuevo.

Dye leeches out
The dye is not stable and has completely washed out over a few months, now leaving them a mix of grey and tan - original colour was tan (they call it mud). Belt is prone to loosening often and is integrated so you can't replace it.
