Nice Roman Empire Introduction
I have listening to podcasts that tell of little stories of the Roman Empire, something I was barely unaware of any details a little I've 2 years ago. I was ready for a more comprehensive overview and this book provided enough details for me. Thank you.

Interesting but...
It was very interesting, it is the first time I have read anything about the rise and fall of Roman Empire. I felt like It left a lot of things unexplained. I also felt like it assumed I knew more about Roman history than I did and I wish more things were more deeply. The writer assumes that the reader knows a lot about the important names, concepts, and events.

Not bad, not great either
If you are looking for an introduction to Rome then this would be a good start. It hits most of the high points and can provide names and places for deeper study elsewhere and it is not very long, a quick read. The problem is that it is poorly written with many amateurish instances of prose on display. However, if you are not a heavy reader and are interested in the subject, this is the book for you.

Very good
A very interesting book about the Roman Empire. I knew it would be quite condensed of course, but it sure hits on a lot of interesting things. Gives me a starting point for some other books about the period.

Written by a history professor for other history professors?
Seems to be written by a history professor for other history professors. Very dry, and many references to people, places and events are without reference or explanation. Very thorough but lacks any underlying theme....more a chronological collection of facts.

Condensed history
Very informative albeit brief. Kinda a Cliff Notes type book.

convoluted presentation
Convoluted presentation. Poorly edited. Very difficult to follow.

So so
I heard someone discussing the rise and fall of the Roman Empire, so I bought this out of curiosity. It does go into a lot of detail, but it was difficult to break down and categorize.
