Prior homeowners had a keyed deadbolt on our basement door. We didn't like it, and made no sense that key side was facing in to the house, with latch side in the basement. Maybe they had someone living in the basement? I decided to swap it for this Kwikset, with the latch facing in to the house, and the face plate in to the basement. This would provide some security if someone tried to break in through the basement.The installation was straightforward and I didn't even look at the instructions. One very minor issue was the cut out for existing dead bolt was just slightly too small on the face plate side. Additionally, the internal horizontal deadbolt hole needed to be opened just a tiny bit at the top to allow it to work - there's a little piece of metal that comes out of the top when the deadbolt slides out/in. My Dremel with a sanding bit quickly took care of those, giving just a little extra room for both.Easy job and economical.

Perfect product and price. Some single side deadbolts are more than a keyed one, which is strange.I put these on our storm shelter with a passage door handle. Never put a keyed lock on your stormshelter because in an emergency, you never want a variable of not being able enter. Keyed door locks have more to go wrong: Tumbler rusting/sticking, key doesn't work, or losing key. A storm shelter should always be open able for anyone at anytime. Don't store anything inside where you need a lock.In my storm shelter I keep: Oil lanterns, emergency foil blankets, emergency whistle, lighter/matches, water/snacks, small tool set incase i need to remove locks/door handle or bang on door.

This is a GREAT product. It was relatively easy to install (ok - I confess - I cheated and used a Kyobi doorlock installation tool with all the templates). The only reason I'm not giving this five stars ... is due to the unattractive Kwikset stamp on the flat side of the deadbolt lock (the side without the knob to engage/disengage the deadbolt). They should have left the plate blank ... instead of placing their company stamp on it as advertising.

The lock arrived on time & in great condition. Super happy with this purchase. I wanted a second deadbolt, one that couldn’t be picked. I had it professionally installed & it works perfectly. The locksmith said this is a sturdy lock & better than the ones that don’t have the plate on the outside. And it’s analog so it won’t fail without a battery!

I bought two of these and have been satisfied. I wanted to reduce the number of keyed entrances to my house, while maintaining the extra security a deadbolt offers. No way to pick this deadbolt lock!Pros* all metal, no plastic parts* it has a quality brushed nickel finish that goes well with other locks advertising the same finish* it will accommodate either 2 3/8 or 2 5/8 inch offset* simple change out for existing 2 1/8 inch hole deadbolt installations; only requires a #2 Phillips head screwdriverCon - Nothing major, but interior beauty would be enhanced if a cosmetic beauty plate covered the installation screws.Note - the lock requires a standard 2 1/8 inch hole, which means it will not fit the standard 1½ inch hole used by some older locksets. Check before you buy!
