An incredible deal on an incredible RPG!
This is an amazing deal! For the price of what one core RPG book might cost you, with this boxset you get: the core rulebook, 20 game dice, four player decks with each one including weapon/armor cards, condition cards, and action cards, you also get several character sheets (with helpful game references on them), DM sheets that help you keep track of things, a pamphlet that includes several optional rules and three missions to get you started, and a DM screen. The art is also outstanding. Both the core rulebook and the pamphlet are very gorgeous.I have not played this this TTRPG yet, but it appears to be a more condensed and easier to grok Burning Wheel system. Will update on how play goes when I get that up and running. If you're interested the Burning Wheel system, enjoy collecting gorgeous RPG books, or want to roleplay as a mighty sword wielding mouse, then don't hesitate to get this box set!

A solid block of RPG goodness
There is almost no space in this box at all. It's chock full of RPG components and they're all terribly exciting. While you don't really need nice components for a game, having pre-made decks of cards for all the relevant maneuvers, conditions and equipment certainly makes play nice. It also addresses a problem I have a cons where I'm trying to attract players to my table/game and have to compete with folks who have lavish props and handouts. While those things don't make a game good, they do help attract players and not having players can definitely make a game ... not so good.My only negative comment on the contents is that the map is rather small (only 2X the footprint of the box) and the GM screen is quite flimsy, not nearly as chunky and robust as the one for Torchbearer.Material aside, what about the actual game? Well, it's the leanest refinement of the system that Luke Crane et al have published in three editions of Burning Wheel (original, Revised, Gold), Burning Empires and Torchbearer. Mouse Guard brought some innovations to gameplay which hadn't ever quite been realized in other games -- group scripted abstract conflict resolution replaces a more traditional combat system. What does that mean? Basically that the GM can make all kinds of things the focus of play, whether it's driving a bobcat away from one of the mouse colonies, rafting across a river swollen with spring rains or convincing the prudent, spendthrift mice of Leafbark to share their winter stores with their less fortunate cousins whose stores were invaded by weevils. All in all, it's a very innovative roleplaying game that makes new ideas fun and accessible and has high quality components which will draw you in.

Great role playing book, Creative play
This game has a great concept, based on a comic book named Mouse Guard. The mice are the sentient beings, but they are also the smallest. So you're role playing season to season and how the mice interact with their natural habitat, including the food they eat and the predators they encounter. The characters are the Mouse Guard, and their job is to protect and assist the population. For the most part your characters will receive a mission where the characters are given an obstacle to overcome. Pending your success you may have consequences which will alter the direction of game play, possibly resulting in plot twists and side quests. You need at least 2 players, though this game is more fun when you have about 5 player, so that would be 4 players and the game master. Each player controls just one character you design yourself, however for faster play the book does have some premade characters you can use. The only drawback is that it can take up to 2 hours to create a character, but that just means you have a greater background for your character. The play mechanics is different than your typical game. This game has less of a focus on combat and more focused on the storyline. For this game you won't need a full multi-sided dice set, you'll only need six sided dice which makes this a bit more accessible for those who don't own full dice sets. All storylines and information the game master needs is included in the book, which is well organized to help in locating the needed information.Over all I would recommend this book. It has a unique take on role playing that focuses more on the story than on combat. It's easy to play and offers up creative storylines for anyone who wants to play.

Amazing Product but...
I've been waiting for this book to get reprinted for quite some time now. When I saw the paperback version for $40, I ordered it faster than I've ever ordered a product. I was ecstatic to open the box and check out all the goodies: the scripting cards, weapon cards, and condition cards especially since teaching this game to others is such a hassle.I was surprised and disappointed to see that the cards were very damaged. The cardstock seems to be of fine quality, but they were mangled and creased, and even stuck together oddly enough. If it were any other product I would send it back, but I personally don't want to risk not being able to get the box set again in case the product is recalled for these seemingly common defects. The outside of the box was a bit messed up too, but this is more of a minor gripe than the cards. As always, the core rulebook is full of gorgeous and mostly original illustrations. The reminder cards and scripting cards are also beautiful and aesthetically pleasing. The dice are awesome too, as is the provided map.To those that are unaware, this boxed set also comes with additional rules and more lore about the world of Mouse Guard, including pre-made missions, new towns, and more information about the mouse society. If you are a diehard Mouse Guard RPG fan such as myself, I would say that the product is still worth it despite the defects, but if you're more ambivalent or choosy about your TTRPG collection, I would exhibit caution when purchasing the paperback boxed set.

Absolutely Wonderful
The box set contains everything you could need to play. With an interest setting, a map of said setting, a storyteller's screen, a bunch of custom d6 dice, as well as a boat load of blank character and storyteller sheets.Definitely give this product a try if it seems like something you'd be interested in.

Cool game
Product is great, but packing could be better, some foam maybe? (the box of the game was a a bit bent inwards).
