Lovely artbook
The media could not be loaded. I actually enjoyed this 7-min short film more than The Good Dinosaur that followed. There are several things about Sanjay's Super Team that I really like. First is how different the idea and concept is compared to all other different Pixar films. It's actually something about culture and religion. The second is the action scenes that are really dynamic, impactful, almost anime-like. And third is the beautiful lighting and set design. All these are discussed in the book. This 130-page hardcover is a wonderful companion to the short film. It collects plenty of concept art with commentary by director Sanjay Patel and other artists who worked on the film. There's a touching introduction about how Sanjay's father and the Indian culture inspired the story. Throughout the book, there's interesting details on how the characters came about and how storytelling was to be approached. The artworks are also fantastic. There are storyboards, designs for the characters and the temple set. All are drawn in a very stylised manner that's can be considered similar to picture books that Sanjay Patel has worked on.There's so much depth and information compared to the recent Pixar artbooks that are almost wordless, e.g. The Art of Good Dinosaur and The Art of Inside Out . I'm relieved that my money is well spent this time. It's a very nice book.

Super team....Super Book!!!!!
I finally picked this book up after seeing the mindblowing animated short. I've been a fan of Sanjay's work for a long time and this book does not disappoint. The artwork is beautiful and really does justice to the visual development process of any animated film or short. The story of the short centers on bridging the cultural gap between a father and son. The father wants his son to embrace more cultural stories from their native ancestry but little Sanjay only has eyes for western American superhero characters until he enters a world where the two can unite to help him defeat a powerful enemy. As with alot of Pixar shorts, this story is told with no dialogue, just the animation and character pantomime. The book is filled with great sketches as well as finish still shots to entice and inspire any reader or artist. Great styles and character designs, great color. A must have art book. I can't wait to see what he does next.

Such a great beautifully illustrated book. My daughter loves the short film and it was fun her to read the process behind it.

Modest Masterpiece
I was lucky enough to follow Sanjay's personal work which evokes the same subject matter here, but in even more detail and depth before it became the treasured Pixar short backed by John Lasseter and the Pixar team. That's the only reason why I've deducted a star from my review, because if you want to see Sanjay's gorgeous illustrative style applied to these epic Hindu tales, you'd be better suited purchasing 'Ramayana: The Divine Loophole' from 2010, which has far more coverage and artwork to fawn over than what is offered in this modest book. What I did love about this book was the commentary, especially in the first few pages which detail the love and respect Pixar gave to the source material and especially Sanjay's knowledge of it, both personal and spiritual. Most of the work in the book is not Sanjay's, but the work of other Pixar artists adopting his signature style, from storyboards, to character designs, sculptures to 3D models which is fascinating in and of itself - but not quite enough in quantity of breadth to give a greater understanding of how each character / environment was developed which is a shame.I was also a little disappointed that the final 10 or so pages of the book are spent on full-spread sequential storyboards [loose-brush digital paintings] which felt like a bit of a waste given how small the book is over-all. I'd have loved some more character sketches, maquettes or something more detailed to fill up this precious real-estate.Given the price, it's a worthy and affordable addition to your art / animation library, but for just a few pounds more, you can have a book that features much much more artwork by Sanjay on the exact same topic.

Great value for the money
Great value for the money, it's the first time I've seen an art book for a short. Hope this will be a recurring thing in the animation industry :)It's smaller than usual art of books in size dimensions, the others are usually more landscape but this is closer to a square! There's insight into just about every aspect of the production of this short, via concept art, text and screenshots.I'm a huge fan of Sanjay's art so this is a great edition to go alongside the Divine loophole on my shelf!
