Walking with God Day by Day: 365 Daily Devotional Selections

Great Expositions of God’s Word for great devotional time
This book is a collection of wonderful excerpts of sermons from the infamous “Earl of Exposition” himself, Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones. His theology, his exegesis and applications are spot on in his day and even for our day, since the Word of God endures forever (is appropriate for every generation). Lloyd-Jones has such a high view of God and Scripture, and a biblical low view of man; and it shows in this devotional book. Get this book for yourself or your loved one who loves Christ. You will not be disappointed.

Wonderful, Deep Devotional Material in a Readable Format
Finding helps for our devotional time can be a challenge. Often, many of them merely offer a "Daily Crumb" rather then a satisfying meal of Scripture. This new collection of the late Dr. Martin Lloyd-Jones writings, arranged into 365 daily readings, seeks to offer devotional material that engages the mind in addition to the heart. One feature I especially like in their arrangement is that each month has a theme, such as "New Life in the Spirit" (January) or "Knowing and Serving God" (August). I have enjoyed the continuity and thematic thinking that this enables the reader to do. One other feature that I enjoy is that each excerpt lists the book and page numbers from which it was taken, something that many collections like this fail to do. This enables a person who is interested in reading more on a given topic, to know where to find it!All in all, editor Robert Backhouse has provided a great service in compiling these many words of wisdom, challenge, and devotion from Lloyd-Jones into a useful resource for believers today. Try it and see how it can help you 'glorify God and enjoy Him forever'.

A GREAT DEVOTIONAL!!!
I just finished the last page. This devotional has been with me everyday next to my Bible. I love the set up of one or two verses, a few paragraphs and then a sentence from the paragraphs to meditate on. Crossway kept the KJV in as MLJ used it so I would defer to my Bible at times before reading the paragraph but it wasn't an issue. I found this devotional to be edifying in my walk with the Lord. During down times this year when I found it hard to read my Bible this devotional was like a coach encouraging me to read the Bible everyday. I would read the verse and then go into my Bible and read that chapter or whole book. This devotional isn't for everyone. It isn't going to tell you ever day Jesus loves you no matter what you do. It isn't going to baby you through the year. This isn't some life motivational quote book. It's going to challenge, convict and grow you in the foundational truths of the Bible as you live your life for God.

Such a Pleasant Walk...
What a wonderful thought...walking with God day by day. Martyn Lloyd Jones is the perfect guide to such a walk. each of the 365 devotional "mileposts" encourage, inspire, motivate, train, and lead you farther and farther along the path of life in the Spirit, life honoring Christ, and life in God. There are few "companions" on the Way that can explain Scriptures, provide compelling metaphors to clarify your understanding, and who can instill a sense of pride in being a believer, being on the Way, being Christian in the fullest sense of the word not the secular, cultural, dumbed down version many churches and pastors are positing to foster quantity instead of quality.Do not be deceived. Tread the ancient, the old, the true paths. It is a much better journey with a much more scenic view.

excerpts from sermons
This book has excerpts from the published sermons of Rev. Lloyd-Jones. Each month the excerpts are from a different book. Back in 1970, Eerdmans had a daily devotional book (A First Book of Daily Readings From the Works of Martyn Lloyd-Jones) using excerpts from his topical books. I much prefer this out of print book to this one. It was by Frank Cumbers. After reading through this book for several years, I discovered why I preferred the Cumbers book mentioned above. This one is mostly about theoretical head knowledge about God. The Cumbers book is about heart knowledge and how to live your life.

One of the Best One Year devotionals I have ever done!
This was one of the first experiences I’ve had with Martin Lloyd-Jones. I will probably do this one again as I know I didn’t get everything that was in it. Highly recommended!

The best devotional book I have ever found.
I am only in January, 6 days worth to be precise, and I like the format of this book better than any I have read before. It has a "theme" for the month & then proceeds to teach on this theme using bible verses and references. January's theme is the Holy Spirit; the third person of the Trinity. So far the emphasis is on the person-hood of the Holy Spirit. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn about scripture as they read through the year. I would rate it with ten stars, but you only have five!

Walking tall
This is just a pocket full of hope. It is a meaty read, a timeless classic and very assured in its message even if it sometimes stings. The writing is a little dated but nothing that can't be overcome. I sometimes need to re-read the daily message to understand or let it sink in but it is worth it.What amazes me, if that this was written a long time ago but the messages are still relevant to todays issues and problems, hopes and joy, there is truly 'nothing new under the sun' as the good book declares.
