wont read over 425: update
Its big, alot bigger than the original that came with my green egg so it takes some getting used to - what i mean by that, is that i know where 250 is on my old thermometer at just a glance but with this one, i have to walk up to it and check, just something different to get used to, But unfortunately mine will not read above 425- just stays there, doesnt seem to be hitting the backing or binding anywhere, just defective i guess, So do yourself a favor and check to make sure you are getting the full range of the thermometer, don't wait till you want to sear a steak in order to find out it doesn't work, Im passed my return time so ill just use it for low and slow. other than that not a bad thermometer. UPDATE: this company stands by there product got a free replacement and this one works perfect. Wouldn’t hesitate to purchase from them. Good product and great customer service

Works great without a big price tag!
I haven't bought a new thermometer for our Green Egg because it was so expensive ($38 on Ace Hardware site). It works perfectly and is easy to read. Sorry I didn't see it sooner.

Better than Tel-Tru
I had a Tel-Tru in my Big Green Egg for a number of years until it broke. Since it did a good job I ordered another Tel-Tru BQ325R here on Amazon. Unfortunately, the Tel Tru that I bought was leaky and within a short period of time there was water in it. Drops of water, not just a little bit. If you look at the reviews for Tel-Tru it's not an uncommon complaint. Bought one of these because the Tel-Tru failed and it's worked really well. It's accurate - compared it with another thermometer that clips on to the grate and most importantly it doesn't leak. Have had it out in the weather and the inside is as dry as a bone. Another big benefit - this thermometer is significantly less expensive. Next time I need a new one for my Egg, I'm getting another one of these. Why spend twice as much for a lousy product. Tel-Tru has really dropped the ball.

Can’t calibrate. Doesn’t seal. Feels cheap. Meh.
Tl;dr: Looks nice but not precisely calibrated, can’t calibrate yourself. Doesn’t seal against the Egg. Calibration: It’s not bad for the price, but I’ll be returning it for an OEM Tel Tru. It’s ALMOST calibrated out of the box — read 209°ish in boiling water where my instant read was at 212° and you cannot calibrate it. You gotta send it in for a replacement. I’m not a big stickler for name brand things, but my old OEM Tel Tru never failed me and lasted years until I did a clean burn at like 1200° and left it in for “testing purposes.” Turns out 800-900° is about the limit on those things. Seal: It doesn’t quite sit flush on the egg. The gasket is quite large and only the bottom sits against the grill. I used my old smaller gasket to help create a better seal. You can see it in my pics. There’s one pic with both gaskets and one with just the larger one that came with this thermometer. Again, it’d probably be fine and wouldn’t leak smoke or heat. But I’m just picky about the small things. Verdict: For the price, it’s just meh. I’m sure it will be fine for a while, but if the temp reads wrong in 6 months I’m SOL. I’m returning it and will gladly spend the extra 18 bucks on a U.S. product instead that I know will last years.
