Good jacket.
I wanted to write a review for this jacket because I wasn't sure what size to order when looking at the size chart. I weigh 310 pounds and am 6 foot 1 inch tall. I ended up ordering the 3XL tall size since that's what I wear in t-shirts and other clothes. This jacket is really big in the shoulders, but fits properly across my stomach and will zip up easily with no problem. Carhartt wear is really good quality. I was sort of disappointed that the jacket didn't come in their brown color -- it's sort of like a soil color or dirt color that's a medium-dark brown. That's the color I used to wear in their jackets. I've been using Carhartt for outdoor and work clothes since I discovered their brand at their downtown store in Seattle. I really like their work pants and jackets and this won't disappoint you. A lot of big and tall clothes you might be able to find locally are usually flimsy when it comes to outdoor wear and won't last or isn't warm enough with just cheap fabric and filling. This jacket is great quality and you should consider one if your looking for a plus size winter coat. The jacket has a small pocket on the left interior that zips open and shut and a pocket on the right side that's about cell phone sized. The zipper is good quality and the jacket has a interior cord that can shrink the waist area to keep wind out or cold air. This has stoppers on both ends which are the pinch to release ones. Exterior pockets on the front chest are velcro and are the same size to hold a small notepad or phone or tools. Collar is nice. I ordered the dark navy color and it looks almost black like the color of a p-coat. Am really looking forward to trying this coat out in the mountains. This is the heaviest lining I think that Carhartt offers other than their specialty wear for the north and south pole. I suggest if you're a plus size you consider this coat I'm really happy with it. I've owned lots of Carhartt gear over the years and will stay with them for clothing as long as they keep making it for us. Thanks for reading.

Sizing was very large.
Jacket was made well and looked nice but was very large on my grandson. He is a large boy at 17. He is tall and broad at the shoulders, but the jacket was very large.

Cathartic duck insulated traditional coat
At 59 years old I feel I can give Carhart a true honest review. I’ve been in the natural gas construction industry for the last 6 years as an inspector, I’ve been in construction my entire working life and worn Carhart everyday. From pants to tee shirts, socks, hats, beanies and jackets. I even owned an insulated vest. If you want gear that will last the test of time and hard work, Carhart will never let you down. I’ve retired a good amount of all Carhart gear. This jacket I bought because I like nice things and like to look professional in my inspection duties of the job sites. Living and working in Northern Nevada near Lake Tahoe we’re on layoff for winter due to the high level of snow we get every year so a lot of us plow snow in the winter to stay busy. This jacket will be perfect with a hoodie under it, bought it 1 size to big on purpose just for that reason. I used a can of water proofing on it to help keep me dry. One cool option on this jacket is it has snaps around the collar to add the canvas hood if I wanted to. The stitching is heavy duty and has plenty of pockets to keep what I need to carry safe. It has a pocket on the inside that has a zipper, just big enough for a sub compact conceal carry pew pew. A valid expectation is this jacket lasting the next 10 years. Well worth the money spent

Excellent medium weight winter coat.
Lives up to the expected Carhartt quality. I expect it to outlive me. Not as warm as the warmest version, and exactly what I wanted. I can only wear the warmest when I visit Chicago in January. Seems a bit bulky, but plenty of room and not difficult to move around. Smart looking and I will wear it for business as well.

and I think it's going to hold up nicely for a very long time
So here's the deal, I purchased this coat and the Carhartt Men's Extremes Arctic-Quilt Lined Coat, both in MEDIUM. I simply couldn't make up my mind and none of the stores in my area had either coat to make the comparison. I wanted to try them on and compare them side by side, so that's what I did.I'm going to start off by saying that they are the same style coat, both very rugged, both fit the same in the medium size. This coat, however, contains the same exterior rugged material as the traditional Carhartt coats (see Carhartt Men's Thermal Lined Duck Active Jacket J131) that I normally see people wearing on the job. I simply preferred this material, but in this style. After a few days, I sat down with the coat and realized that it was too constrictive in the chest/stomach section. I returned the MEDIUM duck-lined coat and purchased the LARGE. This is a perfect fit for me.This coat is heavy, thick, feels extremely warm, and I think it's going to hold up nicely for a very long time. It is a little stiff, but I know that over time with wearing and washing it, it will soften up a bit. I'm 5'-11, 180 lbs. The LARGE is just perfect for me. I also plan on ordering the arctic lined hood eventually. The zipper appears bullet proof and I love the flap that covers the zipper, with velcro. The cuffs built into the sleeves are awesome, and it should keep the cold out for sure. The reason I chose not to keep the Men's Extremes Arctic-Quilt Lined Coat over this one, is I just didn't like the new material. It's super stiff, loud during movement, and I just wanted the traditional exterior Carhartt material that's been around forever. I have no doubts that both coats will keep you warm while you work outside.
