This ravishing, mysterious rumination on identity, love, and human intuition remains one of the most beloved films of Krzysztof Kieslowski (Decalogue, the Three Colors trilogy). Irne Jacob (Red, Othello) is incandescent as both Weronika, a Polish choral soprano, and her double, Vronique, a French music teacher. Though unknown to each other, the two women share an enigmatic, purely emotional bond, which Kieslowski details in gorgeous reflections, color, and movement. THE DOUBLE LIFE OF VERONIQUE is an unforgettable symphony of feeling.

One of the best movie ever
When I first saw the film, I fell in love with Irene Jacob. And that love has remained to this day. On my second viewing, I understood Preisner's genius. Add to this the visual beauty, and you can talk about a true larger-than-life masterpiece. Everyone should see this cinematic marvel.

Achingly elusive film
'The Double Life of Véronique' is a beautiful, enigmatic and beguiling work in which director Krzysztof Kieslowski explores the notions of dual identity and human intuition.Irène Jacob delivers an irresistibly alluring performance in the twin roles of Weronika and Véronique, two young women who lead separate lives in Poland and France respectively. They have many things in common, despite their different backgrounds, and one is unconsciously able to avoid the pitfalls that the other has fallen into during her life. The film boasts a plethora of mystifying, unsettling and unforgettable images. The iridescent cinematography and gorgeous colours are a feast for the senses. I felt them seeping into me.In addition, Zbigniew Preisner's haunting score lingers long after the credits have rolled ... ... ...'The Double Life of Véronique' warrants repeated viewings. It's like one of your favourite records that you can place on the turntable whenever the mood takes you. Recommended.

Excellent BD
This is technically an excellent BD disc with a competent transfer encoded at high bit rate and lossless sound. Highly recommended if you like the film. It looks far better than the 35mm print I saw some time ago.Update: The disc does have some grain filtering applied (which I missed at first due to watching it with a too dark projector) which leaves some artifacting behind. If you want to see the full grain get the US Criterion disc.

One of my all time most loved films!
There is an atmosphere of spiritual beauty that infuses this film for me. Yes it is lovely to look at. Irene Jacob captivates with her uniquely tranquil presence. Krzysztof Kieslowski handles the vision in his head to deliver a shimmering mirage of mystery, coincidence, sadness and joy. The music is sublime, the cinematography astounding which, along with delicious art direction, combine to make this is a piece of art to wallow in over and over and just get more from each time.Yes i do love it!

An uncanny dream of a film
This is an enigmatic study of parallel or double lives, moving between Paris and Krakow, French and Polish, brilliantly shot in immersive colour. A unique masterpiece to see again and again.

Not my favorite Kieszlovsky, but enigmatic, mysterious and somehow intriguing
Enigmatic, intriguing, mysterious, existential, methaphysical, tale about destiny, coincidence, free will and the unexplicable plots of chance. The great thing of this film is that you cannot really tell when the reality end and the metaphor begins: is there a real double or we are just watching a representation of human condition?Because in Kieszlovski there is a sense of transcendence where strange things, even miracles, can happen. So no wonder that there might be someone who is basically the other yourself just living in another dimension or hypothesis of life. That said, the film does not always manage to be engaging and tends to a certain heaviness that increases as the film gets more obscure.Personally not one of my favourites from the great Polish director. The blu ray is pretty good

Beautiful, well directed, unusual film well worth watching in a deep sense.
Beautiful sensual film with very few words needed. A real credit to the director for taking such an unusual approach to film. Not much of a storyline and no real ending but really watchable anyway in a surreal way.
