Ukulele For Dummies

Learning the ukulele alone.
The book has a lot of good advice and it’s easy to follow but it’s a little overwhelming to a beginner. I found the link to the website very helpful, however. I tend to learn better when it’s a step-by-step process with music in combination with the lesson. I wasn’t as self motivated as I needed to be to get full value from this book. I think the videos on the website were very helpful and more focused to the way that I learn.

Great comprehensive instruction book
You know I didn’t expect a whole lot but I got way more than I ever thought possible. I went through the whole book in a relatively short time. It really focused me on different playing techniques. I was already pretty good at fingerpicking but had a mental block about strum patterns. This book got me over that hump. Also, introduced other playing techniques that I was vaguely aware. I’m going to go back through the book to reinforce a lot of what it introduced me to. I really think it’s a great instruction book.

Best Ukulele Book!!
Lots of well organized information; lots of songs; and very usable chord charts. Other Ukulele books only supplied information segments pointing to next volume to purchase. This can be a first book, a reference book and a last book. Only thing missing was an illustration of the 4 (5) sizes of Ukulele. Music stores around college campuses seem to only carry the short neck soprano which seems to be mostly OK for young kids. Son and grandson each bought one of these. They are now high up in the closet.

Unable to access website for audio and video track; too complicated.
I bought the 3rd. edition believing the audio and video tracks would give me a better understanding of learning to play a ukulele. The web site is terrible. After three try’s, I cannot get the information to help understand the techniques by viewing a video or audio help. I tried a chat, I was number one but was advised to try again at a later date because no one was available to chat with. Overall the tutorial is good even with the few errors I found. Overall I give it a three star rating due to its complicated web site and inability to speak with a person. Security on the web site is overwhelming.

Blurred musical notation and tab numbers are impossible to read at 6-8 inches
I was excited to get this book. The text is well written, the playing hints are useful, and the instruction is good. But in the middle of the book around page 130 it is poorly printed. The musical staff notes are blurred and difficult to distinguish. The tab numbers are nearly impossible to read even with magnifying readers. It will be extremely difficult to place this book on a musical stand and attempt to read the music from greater than 6-8 inches even at 25 years of age and perfect vision. I don't know if I got a poor printing or if all the books are defective. I would only buy this book in person if you can check the legibility of music notes and tab system.

The book is written simply and clearly for beginners.
Gradually gaining knowledge is a suitable method and allows for repetition. Well-chosen pieces of music to practise.Maybe too bulky, because unfortunately I have to translate into my mother tonqe. No flaws, thats enugh for me!

Missing pages??
There are several songs in the book which are missing the second page. Also, the ink is not black, but a gray instead making the book challenging for older eyes. I would not recommend this book.

After years and many different teachers, I'm finally learning!
I've tried playing the Guitar and the Ukelele for years on and off. Many people have tried to help me learning, but any progress has always been very low and slow. After I started reading this book I managed to make a quick progress and this week for the first time I sent an audio of me playing and people started identifying the song! :DMy main problem was getting rhythm and the book shows how to build that by reading tablatures, some music theory and different strumming patterns.I don't know if this book is for everyone, but if you are struggling for a long time or with rhythm, I highly recommend it.
