Meinl NINO Wood Frog Small Green

I purchased a few of these for use in teaching children about rhythm and music. I had been expecting it to produce a dull, soft, solid-wood sound, more like a children's toy, but was pleasantly surprised to find that it actually produces a loud, open, hollow-wood sound. This is a professional-sounding instrument. I believe it would work well in any rhythm or Latin band. Use the narrow end of the stick for a softer sound and the broader end for a louder sound. I first tested one of these at home and my college-aged children came in to see what was making that wonderful, curious sound. Everyone wanted to give it a try. Of course it was also a huge hit with the younger children I was teaching. Such a fun treat! I would definitely recommend these!

I bought this for a young child who is a music student (violin and percussion) and she likes it a lot. I also bought one of these in the smaller version, which would fit her hands better, but this bigger one sounded enough better that I went ahead and gave it to her, keeping the smaller one to play with myself. (The smaller one does have an impressive sound for its size.) Great quality. Great value. I didn't much care for the color as it appeared in the photo, but after receiving it I like the color a lot....quite like a real bullfrog (I've caught and eaten a few from Kansas farm ponds!)....and seems to be a stain rather than paint so I don't think it will peel or flake off, plus the wood grain is visible through the stain.

I bought this as a Christmas gift for my brother who is a music major and owns just about every instrument but a frog. He really liked it and we messed around with it for hours. Of course this is more of a novelty instrument or childs gift but its still unique and fun.

Yes, this may be one of the most engaging types of instruments for kids, as it has two options for how to make a pleasant sound. The first obvious one is to bang it on the nose. The second is to run the mallet across the ridges on the frog's back. It is also small, and easy to store. However, that also makes it easier to lose. Create a special place to put Froggy away, and be sure the kid puts it away. Best of all, it eats everything, even flies.

I purchased two of these "instruments" as a birthday gifts. What a HIT! We are trop rock fans who enjoy playing along with the band. "Froggy Bottoms" get a lot of use and have disappeared a few times as everyone wants one. Although small, compact and easy to carry in a pocket or purse, the sound is like that of a much larger instrument. Would not hesitate to purchase more.

Got this for my husband and he really liked it. Makes a very unique sound. Just the right size. Nicely made

I bought this Guiro as a gift for my musician brother and law. The wood carving is great and overall it is a great qualtiy instrument. It is a little bigger that the palm of your hand and small enough to pack in a carry-on for airplane travel. If I had the option I would have gone with a medium size just to make it a bit more transportable.Although it was advetised to make a "ribit" sound, we were never able to do it.
