Takes some doing but saves me beauoup dollars! Well worth the time and effort.
Oh happy day! Why? Because I'm never paying $200-400 to get my hair done ever ever again. Ever. I don't have any "before" pics, and really if I did, they'd be pointless. My hair's been processed to hell and back for years. I was born with 3a,3b,and 3c-type curls all over my head at once. Soft curls at the front, tighter squiggles in the back, shrubby underneath. It's finely textured but there's a lot of it, giving the illusion that it's thick. I began doing Brazilian Blow Outs five years ago when I moved from the cool northeast to Southern Louisiana - home of the sort of humidity they write books about. New Orleans is a great city, but it's a total hair nightmare nine months of the year. Brazilian blow outs changed my life but they left me chained to a very expensive hair routine. Although an involved, lengthy procedure, the blow outs didn't seem *hard* and I often wondered whether I could do them at home. TURNS OUT I CAN! I was worried about messing it up terribly so I enlisted my husband to help with the back. "Hey honey, can you help me with my hair tomorrow? I'm gonna do the keratin at home." "The what? Well, okay, sure." "We'll need to do it outside." "Whatever." "And we should have a fan." "Mmmmhmmm." "For the burning and the runny eyes." "Sure...wait - what? Burning? What is this stuff?" After calming him down and assuring him it was perfectly safe (the jury is still out on that, though) we set up shop in the yard with a mirror, a fan, a blow dryer, a tail comb, a dye brush, a plastic straightening comb and my trusty Babyliss Nano Titanium 1.75" iron (git you one o'these because they are amazing). The clarifying shampoo might make you nervous because all signs of life and health WILL be sucked out of your hair as if by vacuum. Worry not. This is normal. Application was simple, but I do think he used too much. Aim for saturating each and every hair, but not for making your whole head drippy-wet with the stuff. Apply it in small sections, comb it through with the tail comb, and whatever comes off the comb, wipe it off. No need to completely panic if you over apply: in the end, over-applying only made Day 1 & 2 gummy and strange. Past that it was fine. You're going to want to be in a VERY well ventilated area during the blow dry/flat ironing stage. Even outdoors with a fan it was hard on the eyes and mucus membranes. If you HAVE to do this in an apartment, I suggest doing it in a room other than the bathroom because unless you have an exhaust fan it just might be the last act of your life. Set yourself up someplace where you can open a real window. If you've enlisted the help of a partner, you may have to endure listening to "OHMIGOD WHAT IS THAT SMELL?" and "There is no way that's okay. Please think of your brain cells." and "No, seriously, stop this now or I'm going inside." for however long it takes to dry your hair. The ironing was easy - I used large, wide clips to section parts off, then used the straightening comb to comb through and "hold" sections of the sections (very small sections, mind you; my sections were thin, but wide, because my iron is wide. Make section width based on whatever flatiron you have, but make 'em thin.). At first I thought the comb was unnecessary, but when you're passing a 400F iron over a small section of hair 7-9 times? It's HOT and you do not want to be guiding that hair through the iron with your hand. Buy a spring-loaded straightening comb. Worth the $5. This was stinky, eye-watering business. The fan helped. Ironing the product in was very simple with a mirror. My husband stuck around (ten feet away) but I didn't need help by that point, anyhow. The finished product this first go-round was verrrry disappointing at first. Very gummy, not slick and smooth. Very coated-feeling. I attribute this to over-application. My husband noticed, too. He kept apologizing and said "That is NOT how you look when you come home from that salon.". But after two more days of light ironing before going out - presto: it was perfect. I washed & conditioned it with the stuff that came in the box a week later and it dried super quick and ironed like a breeze. It's got great body, too. I would recommend this product to anyone who has already experienced a professional keratin/Brazilian Blow Out treatment at some point. At least that way you'll know how your hair will behave and you'll have an idea of what to expect. Anyone going into this expecting to have pin-straight hair after washing without having to either blow-dry, flat iron or both should turn right around and buy a traditional straightening product. That's not what this is. You still have to put some work into getting your hair straight, just *a lot* less work than without the treatment at all. This stuff will knock out frizz and leave your hair smooth and silky. It will loosen curls considerably for the first couple of weeks, but as the products wears off, your curls will return. TLDR: Even with our mistake of over-applying I'll still likely get two more applications out of this $79 bottle. Three trips to the salon for the same treatment would cost between $600-800. Absolutely worth a few hours of my time and effort, and worth a little eye-burning. ;)

This Product Worked Well For My Type of Hair
Complex Brazilian Keratin Hair Blowout Treatment really worked for me. I purchased it several months ago and I was very skeptical to try it. I thought it would not work or that it would be difficult to do the treatment myself. I have fine, wavy hair and because I'm aging (I'm 54), there is less hair on top of my scalp now. I don't get pretty curls or waves when my hair dries naturally. I get thin frizzy waves. Going to the beach, or being in humid weather is awful. It curls up in weird ways. So, I decided to try this since I tend to do the Brazilian Blow Outs pretty regularly. I wanted to see if I could save some cash with something that worked for others. I'm really glad I tried it as it did soften and relax my hair to the point where it did not curl up weird. This product will not leave your hair stick straight though. It also contains formaldehyde which some people are concerned about. The amounts are not high enough to deregulate though. Here's what I did: I washed my hair twice with the clarifying shampoo and followed the instructions. I wore a disposable face mask and gloves. I used a brush and worked the product through my hair, one small piece at a time from root through ends (do not apply to the point where it is dripping as it will coat the hair heavily and you'll end up with oily looking hair). I followed as instructed and left it on the required length of time. IMPORTANT: Because this product contains formaldehyde and other chemicals (any liquid that straightens hair is a chemical) you will need to heat your hair in an area that is well ventilated. I used a fan to blow the fumes out of my slider window. Do this when you begin to blow-dry the hair and flat iron it. The fumes are strong and burn your eyes. Also, you will need a second mirror to see the back of your heat to ensure you are taking the bend out of the hair there (cow licks) appropriately and uniformly around that part of your head. This is very important because you do not want some of your hair flat and other parts wavy when this dries. Flat iron in the direction that you normally style and give yourself a little gentle curve where you think you normally like so it's not sticking straight at the ends. I did not flat iron the top of my hair as many times as I did the back because I have less hair there and I did want to leave some body on the top. Leave the product in once you're done. I left it in about two hours before washing because I was going out that night. I think next time I use this I will leave it on a lot longer. They recommend at least three hours or even overnight. Nice results. Not stick straight but not wavy. It's been about a month since I used it and my hair is still manageable, noticeably flatter, but there is a bit of body too. It dries much quicker too and even though I still have to flat iron a bit, it's not at the higher temperature setting. I find that 360 degrees does the trick where before it was at 400 degrees. Not good to do that high ever. I would say this product worked very well for me. It's not as strong as the Brazilian Blowout but I also don't feel that it was not effective. It was effective, and it only cost a fraction of what the Brazilian Blowout costs me. I would buy this again.

Miracle worker!
I have only met one other person with the hair dilemma that I have endured since I was a little girl, and that person is my child. I have a LOOOOOOT of hair per square inch, however each strand is unbelievably fine. I have tried everything anyone can possibly recommend to subdue the knots and I get no results. I had a relaxer once - caused my hair to be unbelievably dry and while it looked great after leaving the salon, maintenance was almost as difficult as it was before the relaxer. I also had lots of breakage on the end, regardless to how gently I combed/brushed. I had to resort to leaving my hair in a bun or a long braid most days, out of fear of losing a lot of hair from knotting. Even with a relaxer, I was always gentle and avoided a lot of heat. I would do roller sets and it would take at minimum 4 hours to dry. YES, FOUR HOURS even with the coke-a-cola sized rollers. Salon visits - Not always fun if my regular stylist was not available, as people see volume and assume that they can just rip through my hair. I think the impression most people get is that a lot of hair is the same as have thick strands. I have lost count as to how many professional stylists I have to educate. I have even had to BEG to have my wet hair comb with extreme care, as my delicate strands tend to snap due to harsh treatment. I decided to throw caution to the wind, as I have a crazy schedule and spending an entire day on my hair isn't option, OR fun. I understand the risks associated with formaldehyde, I went outside to blow dry my hair, reducing exposure to fumes. It did not take nearly as long as I imagined to do my hair, even at nearly waist length. I left the product in for 3 days, because despite not taking long, I still like to minimize heat. Although my hair is fine, I opted flat-iron on 450, but I only passed over each section 3-5 times max and my hair was left SUPER straight, shiny and silky. Today, I washed it using my own paraben free shampoo and applied CHI 44 Iron Guard as I put rollers in my hair. My biggest shock was how easy my hair was to manage. Honestly, that alone was worth it for me. Can you imagine being afraid to wear your hair down all the time, or having to get in the shower for a least an hour to attempt to work through knots??? The comb and Wet brush just slid through my tresses with barely any shedding AT ALL! I am sitting under my hair dryer now with giant rollers in my hair. Now, I do have a commercial hair dryer. I spend a lot of my hair tools, but I typically get salon results. I anticipate that my hair will be just as shiny as it was the other day. I'll update after a couple of months, but as of today, this product is a complete win for me.

Worth the time investment
I recently purchased the Keratin Research treatment, and I am thrilled with the results. This product has completely transformed my hair, leaving it smooth, shiny, and incredibly manageable. I am more than happy to share my positive experience and recommend it to anyone looking for a high-quality keratin treatment. First and foremost, the application process was straightforward and hassle-free. The instructions provided by Keratin Research were clear and easy to follow, allowing me to achieve professional results in the comfort of my own home. The kit contained everything I needed, including the keratin treatment and clarifying shampoo. It's worth noting that the application process does come with a strong and unpleasant odor. The scent can be quite overpowering and may cause discomfort, particularly for those with sensitivity to strong smells. Additionally, during the application, there is a possibility of the odor irritating the eyes, which can cause temporary discomfort or a burning sensation. However, it's important to remember that these effects are temporary and occur only during the application process. The odor tends to dissipate over time, and once the treatment is complete, you can enjoy the benefits of beautifully transformed hair without any lingering unpleasant smell. Moving on to the results, I was astounded by the transformation in my hair. Once I completed the treatment, I noticed an immediate improvement in the texture. Gone were the frizz and flyaways that used to plague me. My hair became remarkably soft and silky, with a noticeable reduction in overall volume. Styling my hair became a breeze, and I found that I needed less heat to achieve a sleek, polished look. The longevity of the Keratin Research treatment truly impressed me. Weeks after application, my hair retained its smoothness and shine, even in humid conditions. This long-lasting effect has saved me valuable time in my daily routine, as I no longer need to spend hours battling with my unruly hair. I can confidently say that this product has been a game-changer for me. An important aspect to consider when using the Keratin Research treatment is the time required for the application process. It's worth noting that the application can take approximately 2 hours to complete, depending on the length and thickness of your hair. While this may seem like a significant time investment, the exceptional results and long-lasting effects make it well worth it. By following the instructions meticulously and investing time during application, you can achieve optimal results and enjoy the convenience of reduced styling and maintenance time in the long run. In conclusion, Keratin Research has exceeded my expectations and delivered outstanding results. Despite the temporary strong odor and potential eye irritation during the application, the end result of beautifully transformed, smooth, and manageable hair is well worth it. If you're looking for a reliable and effective keratin treatment that provides long-lasting results, I wholeheartedly recommend giving Keratin Research a try. Embrace the process, follow the instructions carefully, and unlock the beauty of your hair with this remarkable product.

AMAZING PRODUCT - WORTH THE TIME TO DO IT YOURSELF
I'm not one to really write reviews, but on this particular product I wanted to give my input about the product. I have had these treatments done many times over the years in salons and they are extremely pricey $150 to $300. After reading many levels of reviews, mostly positive I wanted to share my experience in using the product. I have thick, course and frizzy hair and I was a little nervous about doing it by myself, but I watched and recommend watching several videos on YouTube on how to do the treatment and how much product to use and how easy it was to do on your own you definitely need to do this prior to doing it - its very helpful. I noticed a lot of the comments talked about how powerful and overcoming the odor of the product was - yes it did have an odor when I used the treatment near my face (made my eyes water some), but opening a window helped with it. I did not find the odor overpowering doing the remainder of my hair. The process is time consuming about an hour and a half and I did it by myself and took my time. After I completed the process, I used the shampoo and conditioner provided and my hair turned out absolutely perfect! I love this product and definitely worth the time to do it and YOU CAN DO IT YOURSELF - ITS SO EASY! The results are amazing! My hair is soft, takes less time to dry it and needed very little flat iron usage and I have enough product to do 3 or 4 more treatments down the road and all the money you will save doing it yourself - I highly recommend it!!!!!!

Wow. I Did my Keratin at home! See notes and updates.
I’m super impressed with this new discovery. I did some Product research and chose this product based on reviews. I did this together with a friend: I did hers while she did mine. It’s a long process and took us about 4 hrs, but it was enjoyable with a friend. We each bought a box. We each used about half the product (med long hair) and have enough Leftover for next time. I’m a few days later and my hair is super smooth and straight. We’ll see how long it lasts, but it feels exactly the same as when I’ve done Keratin at the salon for a small fortune! So excited to have found this product. Edit!! 6 weeks later: I just reduced my review from 5* to 3* I am still happy that I tried this product and was able to do a ‘home Keratin’ treatment during COVID-19 lockdown. The product was decent and okay, it suffices the current need. however the results are not equivalent to salon results. Consider this feedback when you purchase this product. It’s pretty decent but not salon smooth. I find that I MUST blow dry my hair for continued results. I kinda miss coming out of the shower and having it air dry curl free. Also, it takes about 3-5 hours to do the full process. Keep this in mind. I did it for my friend while she in turn did mine at same time. We had a fun time, but That’s 2 ppl for 3-5 hours. Anyway, good product, but I’m not sure yet if I’d buy it again.

MY HAIR IS FALLING OUT LIKE CRAZY!!!!
I was really nervous about trying this. I was afraid it would dry my hair out and make it frizzy, but it hasn’t done that at all! (SEE UPDATE BELOW) I have been straightening my hair by blowing drying it and using a straightening iron for over two years now. After the 2nd day it would start getting frizzy and wavy on me. I have never gotten a straightening treatment at a hair salon being as I cannot afford that. I read the reviews on this and figured I would try it. I just was worried it might ruin my hair. After using this a couple weeks ago….Wow, I am really impressed!! It worked!! Usually when I let my hair air dry I look like a cave woman, but it air dries pretty straight. Now I don’t let it air dry completely. I just let it dry naturally a little before I used the blow dryer, and it didn’t have any frizziness. Then when I blow dried it, it was not frizzy either. It took half the time to do my hair than use to before I used this treatment on it! Now I still have to use a straightening iron, but it doesn’t take hardly any time to do it, and it stays straight longer than it used to. It doesn’t get frizzy either!! I love this!! I will definitely use this again once this starts to wear out of my hair. Glad I tried it, and I will recommend this to my friends that have curly hair and are straightening it. I was worried I would mess it up when I was putting it in my hair, but it wasn’t all that hard to use either. I actually had my husband help me. No, he is not a hair stylist or anything close to that. I figured if anyone can paint a house, they can help put this in someone’s hair. I just made sure I could see what he was doing in a mirror. UPDATE: THIS HAD TOTALLY DESTROYED MY HAIR!! After the second was my hair has started to fall out. It has to be from this treatment being as this was the only thing different I have done to my hair, and it started to fall out after the second time I washed after I used this this! I has dried my hair up horribly!! In the pictured attached you can see exactly how much hair comes out of my head during one wash. The hair is dry in this picture, but this is the amount of hair that came out when I was conditioning my hair. It is horrible, and it makes me scared to death to wash my hair. Even when I am brushing my hair, it comes out pretty bad. I can run my fingers through my hair, and hair will come out easily. What has this done to me hair??? This is exactly what I was afraid was going to happen, but everyone gave such great reviews that I thought it was safe to use. I am worried that my hair is going to end up being see-thru now!!! I am using hair vitamins with biotin, but is this going to save my hair? I knew this was not safe!! I have never done anything like this before because of the chemicals in hair treatments like this, so I should not have trusted this just because of the reviews that others were giving. Now my hair may be totally destroyed!!!! Don't go by the other reviews on here if you value your hair! Yes, it straightened my hair, but I may not have much hair left if it keeps coming out like it is!!!!

Great product for black women looking for straightening alternative!
I was a little skeptical about doing a keratin smoothing treatment on my 4b type hair.I am black and my hair is less dense than most. Due to me constantly wearing sew-ins, wigs, and braids my hair has become un-trained and unruly. I tested out micro links on my hair and I loved it but my natural hair was in no shape to wear such a style. I didn’t want to do a perm relaxer, as I know they certainly would break off my hair even more. I did some research and came across this brand. Let me just say that I didn’t think this product would take to my hair as much as it did; yet, I was still able to keep my curls. My curls are much easier to comb through now and the shampoo and conditioner smelled great and really works all the moisture and sheen back into your hair. During the treatment process, I turned on the ventilation in my bathroom and put on a mask. I didn’t have any problems with fumes until I got to the front right section of blow drying while the treatment was still saturated in my hair. It made my eyes burn a little but no one else in my house complained of any funky smells. The first photo is after step one of washing with the clarifying shampoo, which will leave your hair super dry feeling. I combed my hair before and during shampooing with a wide-toothed comb to prevent breakage. I blow dried my hair in 4 sections (just seemed easier). After I put the treatment on, blow drying again, and flatironing my hair, I kept the product in a little over 24 hours before washing it out with the sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner. After that, my hair felt super healthy and moisturized. It didn’t take long at all to blow dry my hair the third time. I honestly haven’t felt my hair like this in such a long time and I would recommend this product to anyone looking for straighter healthier hair.
