Does the job!
Not the most robust piece of equipment but it does seem to work as expected.Start one end of the spud into the cutter before placing cap on top then slap it down pretty forcefully to cut the potato.

Amazing Fries: Some Ingenuity Required
The first question anyone asks when they look at the Amazing Fries box is a very simple one: “does it work?” The shelves are lined with products very similar to this one, after all. Devices will form bacon bowls, will perfectly pop old fashioned popcorn, and will aid you in salsa making. Yet as any savvy shopper is well aware: these devices are a gamble. Some work almost eerily well, whereas others end up on the shelf as sad cautionary tales. The Amazing Fries slicer ends up being more of the former then the latter, fortunately. So the simple answer is that yes, the Amazing Fries chopper does work. It is perfectly capable of cutting fries into a shape that is suitable for French Fries. However, it is something of a disappointment in that it is sorely lacking in functionality and requires quite a bit of self-ingenuity to work. The box promises fries in seconds. It claims that all you have to do is cut a potato in half, place the flat surface onto the blades, and push down. These instructions are simple, easy, with little room for confusion or error. Were the box's instructions not enough, the device also comes with a simple insert with yet more pictures and instructions as to how to properly cut a potato. These instructions do not vary, though at least the insert instructions do warn that “the force needed will depend on the size and firmness of the potato, fruit, and vegetable.” This proves to be something of an understatement. I am a burly young man, quite capable of carrying my own groceries in one impressive load. However, I found myself stymied by the slicer, needing to essentially leap into the air and slam my considerable weight upon the potato in question. This would result in my sliding a potato a few centimeters down onto the blade. A few more hearty shoves would result in french fries that are roughly the size of an adult's pinkie, hardly what is on display on the box. This is because you cannot simply follow the directions of the Amazing Fries fry slicer if you want results. The internet has proven most beneficial in providing various hints. To begin with, said potatoes need to be soaked in water to soften. Additionally, if you want French Fries that are more fry and less stub, you need to simply cut off the rounded end of the potato to create a flat surface. You must also make certain that this flat surface is perfectly in line with the cutter: any margin of error will result in the potato lodged in the slicer. Any potato lodged in this manner will require a bodybuilder to come and properly remove. Lacking any bodybuilders, I found myself resorting to the tried and true method of jumping up and down. Once I had followed these particular instructions, I found that I could, in fact, cut French Fries of an acceptable length with little effort. I managed to pick up my Amazing Fries slicer at a discounted price, only handing over four dollars and ninety-nine cents for its purchase. With that price, I believe that I got my money's worth. I do not know whether I would recommend paying the full ten dollar price tag for this particular item unless you happen to be someone who cooks French Fries on a fairly regular basis. If you number among those that crave French fried potatoes, then this is a useful product to purchase. Just make certain that you utilize a little ingenuity and modify the instructions to get the appropriate results.
