Sinister events bring together a writer (David Soul) fascinated with an old hilltop house; a suave antiques dealer (James Mason) whose expertise goes beyond bric-a-brac; and the dealer's mysterious, pale-skinned "partner" (Reggie Nalder) in Salem's Lot - a blood-curdling shocker based on Stephen King's novel and directed by Tobe Hooper (Poltergeist).

Still scary!
I watched this on telly when it first came out, re-watching it it was still disturbing, atmospheric and scary. Bonus David Soul was gorgeous.

An oldie but a goodie
Excellent series I remember watching back in the day with David Soul but well worth watching again even if it’s old.

Good Old School Horror
Firstly, this is a no frills BD but the only version I could find of this film. Unfortunately the printed insert was damaged. Hey-Ho. Anyway, to the film... I remember watching this on TV when I was a kid and being impressed and wanted it in my collection for the sake of nostalgia. 40 years on it was plain to me that the film wouldn't have the effect it did originally; but I'm happy to say I enjoyed the trip down memory lane without it being spread over three nights on the old TV, and the superior viewing experience justified the purchase... there's a nice grain that I wasn't expecting and, after brief fiddling of my audio and picture settings, I've got no complaints. The presentation does still include the "freeze frames" that were in the original to split the film into three parts as mentioned... this slightly bugged me, but would be expected by the purists I guess lol. If you're a fan of 1970s and early '80s horror flicks (and are OK with a dialogue that was clearly sanitised for TV viewing), this one's a no-brainer.

Brilliant Stephen King novel
If you are a Stephen King fan you should enjoy this. If you like vampire stories you should enjoy this. Essentially, you should enjoy this, I loved it and read it twice.
