Fun reading for true believers only.
This book is largely a collection of Bigfoot stories the author has cobbled together from other books, radio show interviews and the internet. There is no evidence in the book the author himself has contacted any of the witnesses or done any actual field research himself. He's just put together a collection of stories that have appeared elsewhere into one neat volume for easy reading. He also makes no attempt to be impartial on the subject. He seems to believe that if you've picked up his book you must already believe in Bigfoot just like he does, so why bother diving into the controversy...? That being said, he managed to get some things wrong too. Several of the more famous cases he cites have misinformation in them. Such as the famous Chapman case all those interested in Bigfoot should be well familiar with. He managers to get the narrative wrong. Jeannie Chapman was interviewed before her family’s tragic deaths in the 1940s and his version is contradicted by her very own account.......and she ought to know her own story. He also reprints almost every Bigfoot photo found on the net or shady Youtube video capture. Many of which are clearly fakes or hoaxes. And he somehow gets the dates and locations wrong in some of the captions. He reprinted one photo I'd never seen before, it looked like an obvious fake but nonetheless, I was curious. So I did an internet search for it and found it reprinted on several Bigfoot related sites, all of which gave a different, much early date and a different location for it. And they all called it a known fake too. The author does talk about some of the more dubious photos in the text of the book occasionally ending that entry with a disclaimer…."But it might be a fake." Several of the photos he reprints are so clear and precise if they were remotely authentic the Bigfoot/Sasquatch mystery would have been solved long ago! That being said, the authors sense of humor regarding the subject makes Bigfoot Nation a decent, light read for those interested in the subject. Just don't take any of it too seriously.

What Lurks in the Woods?
If you've ever wanted to read 300 pages of reports of Bigfoot sightings, this is the book for you.The first five chapters list sightings in the northern United States and Canada, chronologically from 1800 to 2000. These are followed by a chapter devoted to sightings of "skunk apes" in the Southeast US and a chapter on sightings in the Southwest. The final chapter focuses on sightings from 2000 to the present.Childress presents the reports fairly straightforwardly, with a very small amount of personal opinion and narrative. Several reports include excerpts from newspaper reports of the day. The book is interspersed with black and white photographs, maps, and copies of historical articles. Two sections of glossy color pictures are also included.Childress does discuss some obvious hoaxes while also hinting at a government conspiracy to cover up the truth of Bigfoot.Included are reports of black, brown, red, gray, and white Bigfoot; male, female, and children Bigfoot, aggressive and merely curious Bigfoot.I'm not obsessed with Bigfoot but I found the book interesting (entertaining might be a better word). It certainly has me questioning just what might be possible out there in the wild places. It Bigfoot probable? No. Is it possible? Yes.And honestly, wouldn't it be cool if it WAS real?

Excellent read and interesting history
A couple of years ago I really got fascinated with the paranormal and this led to a curiosity about the Sasquatch. This is a great book on sightings over the last century. Nice compilation with right amount of creepiness. Gives you the chills and makes you think about what might be out there.
