Australian Designers at Home

Definitely worth purchasing!
It is a beautiful book and will definitely keep you entertained for hours. Let me tell you why.I am normally very careful when it comes to buying design books as if you are not 100 percent fan of the designer then you may be left somewhat disappointed if their style is entirely not to your liking. Therefore I always prefer compilations rather than a book by one designer themselves. In this case the author has visited many amazing homes, each beautiful and yet unique and therefore there is the moment of excitement till the very last page. I am sure there is plenty of inspiration for every design fan in the book. It is definitely not just a picture book, there is interesting reading about each home and its history and how each designer became of who they are today.I am sure you will not be disappointed. A good source of inspiration if you are in the process of designing your own home and at the same time a fantastic coffee table book to keep your guests entertained.

Colefax and Fowler in Australia - with hardly a hint of being anywhere other than England
Again, as in the British designers book, the author has assembled a homogenous group of designers. Yet it makes a lot less sense here. Since she grew up in South Africa I'm surprised she hasn't assimilated some of the wonderful indigenous decors that make books like Hot Afro such an exhilarating blend of local and international. There's hardly a painting or an object that looks Australian. The efficient (everything must be piped and squared) interiors are sometimes interesting, yet apart from Anna Spiro I didn't see much that looked like it was made down under. There's something morbid about people living in one country whose decor is entirely from The Old Country. Don't they love the land they live in? Aren't they wanting to give local a chance? Apparently this author is not. I've seen some great Aussie decor in Vogue Australia Home so it's out there and I hope someone less worshipful of Colefax and Fowler is given the chance to share those dynamic decors with readers.

Prefer the Second Book
Her second book known as British Designers at Home is AMAZING so I decided to get this as well based on that, this one his boring and reads more like an outdated magazine rather than a good coffee table book, will recommend the second one but not this one. Also the interiors are outdated and the photography is dull and dark.
