Rescued: The Unexpected and Extraordinary News of the Gospel

High praise for this short book by Father John Riccardo which tells the story of the gospel in a new and compelling way. I was fortunate to hear this story straight from the author’s mouth in a series of homilies at our parish a year or two ago, and was immediately captivated by his explanations and unique imagery. Although I’ve been a Christian my entire life, never have I had the gospel explained to me in such a fashion. It was like a fire had been lit in my heart, and I couldn’t wait for Mass the following week to hear the next part of the story. The manner of which this story is told, all backed by scripture, answered so many of my past questions and explained the strategy behind Jesus’ coming. You’ll walk away with a much better understanding of how deep God’s love is for us, how creative and clever he is, and peace in knowing he’s in control. God is aware of the current state of his world. He’s not nervous or afraid. He’s got this. And He’s got YOU! Don’t miss this book! You can also hear Fr. John tell the story through a series of podcasts at ActsXXIX.org (episodes 4, 5, 7, 10 and 17). Even if you read the book, I still recommend you check out the podcasts because Fr. John is an excellent story teller that a book may not do justice for.

Don't read this book without a pencil because there are gems on every page that you will want to underline. "We want to know that we matter." "The purpose of life is to be loved and to love." "Nothing dies in paradise." "... nobody is good enough. But G_d loves us anyway." In these hurting times, this book is a lifeline. Buy it for yourself and also for someone you love. It is truly a gift for the soul.

I devoured this book in three sittings and am definitely going to reread it. I'm already passing it around to my family members. Seeing God's love in the way that Father Riccardo beautifully explains it took my breath away. I honestly believe it would be impossible not to fall in love with Christ after reading this book. Father's writing style is clear, engaging, and even humorous at times. More than once I laughed out loud. Other chapters had me choked up with sorrow over how little Our Lord is loved. The book is short but packs an incredibly powerful punch, and cannot possibly leave a reader indifferent. One of the reviewers at the beginning of the book said that if you read only one book this year, make sure "Rescued" is the one. I completely agree with her! Definitely the best book I've read all year! Now I'm going to order the other ones by Father Riccardo!

I love pages 149-150 and also the suggested Psalms 34, 100, 103, 136, 145 and 150 for praising our Lord. I also love what’s said on page 175 “Use me concretely today as an agent of transformation. Bring my marriage ever more into harmony with your plan.” This book is really worth reading. I have read all three books he wrote. Fr John Riccardo is so personable and so real. My husband and I were so blessed to be able to meet him in person in January before this book came out. His books, presentations and homilies will help transform you.

Recommend this to every Christian especially Bishops, priests, deacons and lay people involved in Evangelization. Fr. Riccardo has masterfully outlined the truth and power of the Gospel and reminds us that we were born for this time and place. Through the power of the Holy Spirit each person, surrendered to the Father's will, has a calling to help God get his world back.

This book is a battle cry for our time. The author has pointed out so clearly the simple and yet important truths of Christianity and in doing so inspires us to lift high the Cross. Never lofty, but engaging and INSPIRING he takes us on a journey of faith with new eyes. This book is a must read. Purchasing several more copies to gift.Chris Rosa
