No scent, drinkable, blendable
This is a nice full pound bag of coffee, not one of those increase profits - by - shrinking-the-bag-size numbers. I opened it and took a nice deep inhale.....nothing. I stuck it under my husband's nose....nothing. No scent. I know scent has a lot to do with variety and roasting, which brings the next point: This is past second crack, past a Full City roast into Full French roast. Notice the oil on the outside of the beans. The sugars have carmeliized and degraded. This also is what attributes to it's thin cup. The aromatics have long been burned off into smoke during roasting. Anything over a Full City roast obscures origin profiles of the beans with charring. By their statement, these are central american coffee beans.Costa Rican coffee can lack distinction, is mild and softly acidic. Panamanian beans can take up to a Full City roast and bring out cacao characteristics, but is medium intensity. The Colombian has a better score than the others for flavor, sweetness, and complexity. I would drop the Costa Rican beans, and back off on the roasting a little. Then it would just come down to grind, and process of brewing for extracting the aromatic and flavor profiles. It's not a total loss, I hand ground it to a turkish grind to give it more mouth feel, and because I'm 'away' right now, I had to use an automatic drip coffee maker. The flavor was naturally dark, but drinkable. AFter the first try, I am now blending it with another coffee that has aroma, and the two are balancing out what the other lacked. I do have to add, it is better than a lot that passes for coffee these days that I won't drink.

Certainly some of the best coffee I've had the chance to get whole bean ...
Certainly some of the best coffee I've had the chance to get whole bean reliably. Not only does this fit my requirement of being fair trade and shade grown, but it's also organic! It's not cheap, but rest assured you're not just paying for the fact it's responsibly grown; it really is a fantastic brew!As for the description, It's a rather medium roast with lovely oily beans that are just begging to be brewed in a french press or nice pour over. A nice earthy and chocolaty profile with a hint of roast and acidic sweet for balance.

In comparison with a keurig cup, the coffee here is far less bitter. After trying it I notice a metallic taste in the keurig cups that I hadn't noticed before. The coffee is very strong. When I brew it, it creates a powerful and pleasant smell that everyone is quick to notice. I have yet to get that sort of reaction out of them with any other kind of coffee. The coffee has a lasting effect and I notice I have to drink fewer cups from it if I want to sleep well.

Gives a great crema on espressos (using a Rancilio Silvia)
Coffee is smooth, rich, and no bitter aftertaste. Gives a great crema on espressos (using a Rancilio Silvia), filling the kitchen with a 'wonderful' coffee smell. Great for 'Bulletproof' style coffee. 100% USDA organic Fair Trade Coffee beans, is important, to me. A terrific find, after a lot of 'hit and misses'. I'll update if the quality changes.

Supercoffee!!!
I made this coffee this morning and let me tell you it is some intense coffee in a good way. I love premium coffee and go out of my way to buy it. When I got the opportunity to review this coffee at a discount I jumped on it. First of all the bag that it comes in is a top quality bag...super durable and you can definitely tell will keep the beans fresh. With that being said the beans themselves have a beautiful sheen and the smell is really really strong. When the coffee was done it had a bold and robust flavor. Honestly I did have to add a little bit more milk than usual to adjust to the strength. Normally I'm a 3 cup in the morning drinker. I only needed a cup and a half of this coffee. Also there was no crash feeling with this coffee blend. I really liked this coffee and would recommend it to those that like a very dark roast.

Delicious!
Outstanding cup of coffee! I think i have tried every kind of whole bean coffee at the store and this hands down beats them all. A bit pricey but if you depend on and love your morning cup of Jo as much as we do its worth the cost.
