Fascinates kids when they find similarities. Interesting children in the world, one kid at a time
This is one of those books that would have fascinated me as a kid. It is a 2-page synopsis of kids around the world on facing pages. 84 kids in allIt lists:**** Country**** First name**** Age**** 3 words of their choice adjectives that described themselves like: Nice, Fun, Cool**** The child’s description of where they live**** The child’s paragraph about their family**** Then 6-7 things about where they live or their lifeAs an example Laura from Chile extra things**** My House**** Breakfast**** LOL (putting toothpaste on cookies)**** How we roll (roller skates)**** Favorite animalAnother example: Helena from Austria extra things**** My Cat, Fredi**** Building Memories**** Drama Lover**** Year Round Fun**** Fast Horse**** Team PlayerAt the end there is a mini-test that sees how much you remember from reading the book. And then at the very end, in the index all the countries and activities by that country that are covered in the book are listed by page.In today’s world and interest in people from different countries as people is a good thing and it needs to start young. I applaud this book in its efforts.I’m not the intended audience, so I tried it out on my grandkids. The youngest is not much of a detailed reader, was uninterested initially. He is 7. The middle child who is about to turn 9, was somewhat interested, but was busy when I introduced the book. The oldest at 10 was handed the book and spent a solid 45 minutes going from page to page, exclaiming every now and then about the facts inside. I think overtime this book will get a bit more attention, especially at bedtime when they are limited to reading for activities. Finally at bedtime the middle child had the book and was looking it over page by page. They seem to be fascinated when a child has a similar name to theirs, or their friends, or similar likes and dislikes. The youngest expressed some interest in getting some booktime on the next day as well. I think this book is going to be a hit.

84 children from around the world with over 170 thoughtfully illustrated pages
The book titled "This Is My World" is a durable book that gives an account of different children's lives from around the world. The pages are thick and designed to be long-lasting. The spine of the book is also strong and designed to hold up in a classroom setting. The pages are colorful and explore different areas of the children's lives such as likes, foods they eat, hobbies, homes, and more. The pages offer more than just pictures of children and their families but it shows pictures of the food they eat, their towns, their hobbies, and so much more. For example, a young girl is riding a horse and a boy from Barbados exploring nature and living things. The background of the pages could be a brighter white so that the colors popped a little more in low lighting for night time book reading. 171 pages are composed intelligently and in a way that will catch a child's attention. This is a great book for both young and old because it is informative and interesting. I think it is a good choice for learning about culture.

Unique and refreshing approach to the world we live in - from a child's perspective
This Is My World is a remarkable book to have in your home, especially when your kids are in early elementary grades and learning about the word around them. I actually have mine sitting on a corner shelf alongside my globe. The book features two page spreads each spotlighting a child and the country they’re from. So many of this type book deals in generalities but this book names a real live child and lets them tell you about their city or country. Each youngster talks about home life, school life, the foods they eat, pets, activities, sports or anything that is part of their daily life. It’s up front and personal. The reader is invited into the world they know and live in. This is not especially a book to read from cover to cover. You may want to open to the section that features a child drawn from a lesson at school or a bit on the news.I find this offering from Lonely Planet unique and refreshing in its approach to spreading information about the world we live in.

Excellent book to show kids that a large global world exists
I love this book. l always know that Lonely Planet books are going to be good, but this one is one of my all-time favorites.I made sure my daughter grew up knowing that we live in a diverse world. I taught her to explore that world, learn from it, and appreciate it.We used to pick a country each month to study, and one weekend a month she would have a slumber party serving food from that country. It was always a lot of fun for the girls.I am afraid my grandson will not learn to see diversity in quite the same way as his mother did. His father has a very limited world view. So, with this book's help, maybe I can be a bit of an influence in showing him that a huge world exists to explore and learn from. He's two, so this book is a good starting point.

Global Handshake
I absolutely love this book! It has everything to recommend it!The book features tweens from around the world. Each child has a chapter wherein he or she talk about their home country; the people in their families and the things they like to do. One boy lives in an African orphanage. A South American girl describes her bilingual culture. A girl in Germany regales audiences with the outdoor and academic activities she enjoys. A girl in Japan delights readers with a walk through of her house and the things she likes to do and is good at doing. Each child welcomes readers into their hearts and homes and shares aspects of their respective cultures. I can’t recommend this book highly enough and feel it would be an asset in homes and classrooms. This book is a Global Handshake.
