Blue Team in a modern setting
Troy Denning has two of the three current threads of the Halo novels extended-universe. The first two "A Master Chief" stories occurred in a time in the Official Halo Timeline where John, Kelly, Fred, and Linda were teenagers, after Reach but before Halo: CE. Those felt like a retcon, but they didn't retcon anything, just added a story into the lore where there was a gap and/or no story (they put something in that really didn't need to be there since it was a past story and we already know how things played out, so it was self-contained and felt like a waste of time). This story, however, is after Last Light (so Fred has joined back up with his Blue Team group) and also after Halo 5: Guardians, and before Halo: Infinite. Unfortunately, H:I retcons this book in-that the game is the first time of Chief meeting Atriox and Escharum... in this book, however, the ending has Blue Team encountering Atriox and Escharum, including Master Chief, so it sorta felt like a letdown in the game that they ignored this book (like how Bungie ignored all the books in the original Halo trilogy). This book is great! Lots of exposition, and just the right amount of dialogue between Blue Team.

Amazing
got this book the moment it came out and it was everything i expected. While you never do find out what it is that Chief is looking for on reach, there are hints and some people may be able to guess it. there were also several satisfying tidbits about various happenings in the halo universe including Buck finally getting married to Dare and how Chief feels about the Arbiter. all in all, i would comepletely recomend this book to any halo fan who appreciates a good book about the S-IIs.

great story, to me, just hard to follow and visualize character positions sometimes.
*NON SPOILER REVIEW*Out of the 4 books that I have read of Denning, he always has good stories. The books as a whole almost always turn out to be a very good read. My only issue with Troy Denning's writing style (and this may just be me) is that I time and time again have issues in my minds eye visualizing the characters. Namely the directions that the characters are facing or where things are positioned. This may be a small complaint, especially since I say that his books are overall always good, but it does prove to disrupt the flow of the reading for me.With that being said, this book in particular was phenomenal in all of the right ways. To me, for those who watch anime, I would compare it similarly to how I have heard many compare One Piece to Naruto. Whereas Naruto focuses on individual plotlines and character development, One Piece lends more to world building. The Shadows of Reach spends a considerable time building the world in between and during the missions, dialogue, and battle sequences. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The fall of Reach (Naruto) builds who the Spartans are. The Shadows of Reach (One Piece) returns to reach and builds up the world so to speak. obviously, you can say much more about the two but you get my drift. If I could add one more thing, read: Silent Storm, oblivion, Outcasts (standalone but to me is a sequel and necessary to fully appreciate Oblivion), then The shadows of Reach.

very worthy
I am a diehard halo lore fan. Yes Eric Nylund is the father and grand Master but Troy Denning is a newly minted master as well. He captured blue teams essence, there individual traits and personalities down to Fred's jokes about everything. His character building is also on point and the action scenes, pretty much the whole book, make sense and are thrilling. Also he started to turn John into more a personal person not just a legend who is all business. Worth the time to read and looking forward to more from Mr Denning

Blue Team is back again!
Really enjoyed this book. I couldn't put it down, but that's because I love Halo and anything Master Chief. It provides some insight into what Chief and the UNSC were up to. I recommend watching the Halo Wars 2 cutscenes if you haven't, to know more about the enemies. Also, the word "Lechatelierite" is used throughout the book A LOT, which got comically annoying after the first 15 times. Overall, this is a great read that any Halo fan will surely enjoy!

Troy is one of the BEST story writers for Halo...
Troy has proven time and time again that he understands many aspects of the halo universe. This is an action packed book that hardly drops its great pace throughout the book. Troy manages to not only keep the action going, but also pulls you in with some mystery (and humor) within the story....this book is the little snack halo fans needed while we wait for the next installelment of the Master Chiefs story.

I like the tale of the Master Chief.
As an old dude I have actually played the original Halo and the follow up on XBox. While I haven’t played video games in years the tale of the Master Chief and Blue Team intrigued me. I was not disappointed and will be following up with more Master Chief and The Blue Team stories!

Incredible prequel to Halo Infinite
I had an absolute blast reading this masterpiece by Troy Denning. The writing is really good and literally made me feel like the events of the book were happening right in front of me. Members of Blue Team were, of course, the stars of this book and were incredibly well written. I can write a whole lot of good about this book but I don't want to go into spoiler territory. The point is, buy this book without hesitation.
