McDavid Moisture Wicking HEX Technology Knee Sleeves for Women/Men, Elbows & Shins Protection, Hex Pads

I've found these knee pads to provide the ideal balance between PROTECTION, COVERAGE AREA and FIT & FEEL. And all of this at what I believe to be an excellent price point.Although I'm writing this review from the perspective of a soccer player, I think my critique would be helpful for other applications: home improvement projects, automotive repair, construction, hunting, snowboarding, volleyball, among others. As my team's soccer goalie, I've cycled through several different brands of knee pads to protect myself from hard dives to the turf. What I've discovered is that each brand of knee pad presents varying trade-offs between three factors:1) PROTECTION. If your primary concern is protecting your knees from impacts with the field, turf or hardwood playing surfaces, then you'll want to select a bulkier knee pad -- either one with very thick padding, or perhaps even one with a hard outer shell. Those types of bulky knee pads do a great job with protection, but the trade-off is that their bulk tends to affect your freedom of movement, your overall mobility.2) COVERAGE AREA. Sometimes the impact will occur right above or below or to the side of your knee cap. Ideally, you want the knee pad to provide at least some degree of protection to the immediate area surrounding your knee cap.3) FIT & FEEL. This is a key factor that is often overlooked. The last thing you want to be doing is readjusting the position of your knee pad after every sprint, slide tackle, or impact with the ground. And what if the play is continuing and you don't have time to readjust them? In that instance, with your knee pad askew, it won't even provide you with proper protection and coverage -- which defeats the entire purpose of wearing them!After several practices and games using the "McDavid Hexpad" knee pads, I've found them to provide the best balance between PROTECTION, COVERAGE AREA and FIT & FEEL. Their design is unlike any I'd previously seen. They utilize several nickel-sized pads that are spaced slightly apart to allow for a better range of motion and flexibility. The rest of the fabric is 80% Nylon and 20% Spandex, which allows for excellent flexibility as well as conformity to your body. They hardly ever slip around even after hard impacts and slide tackles. In sum, these knee pads protect you, while also allowing for freedom of movement and a lot of "give."[FYI: I am 6'1 & 185 lbs. I purchased the Size X-Large, and they fit me perfectly. Also, I should note that I've used this product exclusively for knee padding; the manufacturer says they're also functional as elbow pads.]Previously, I'd been using the "Reusch Adult Kevlar Knee Guard," which placed a greater emphasis on protection. And although they protected my knees quite well, they were bulky and limited my movement, range of motion and kicking power. Also, they tended to slip and slide around after nearly every impact, resulting in my having to constantly readjust them mid-game.To reiterate, I've found that the "McDavid Hexpad" knee pads provide the best balance between PROTECTION, COVERAGE AREA and FIT & FEEL. And all of this at what I believe is an excellent price point.

I am an Obstacle Course Racer who almost every weekend goes out into the wilderness and throws his body at some of the most physically straining activities a person can do. When crawling through the mud/sand or climbing a wall the worst thing is a random rock or splinter getting on your knee making every step afterward hurt. I was told by a friend to use these knee pads and they are a life saver. I can wear it for a half marathon and it barely feels like anything is there. But when I throw myself at a 10 feet wall and need my knees for support, the padding makes it easy. Great job!

Great for the knees, elbows, so so. I've been using these as knee pads for about a month now, wearing them direct on my skin under my pants and they have been a tremendous help. I see other reviews complain that they are not padded enough. I've found them to be just right for my purpose. They offer moderate support and a padding that is just thick enough to prevent abrasions and bruises under mild use. I would not attempt to use these for heavy sports or heavy construction but for an everyday wear they are fine. You can alway have a set of heavier pads on hand but you would not want to wear heavy pad all day every day. These can be worn comfortably for extended periods. On the other hand, I brought a smaller size (one size down) to try for elbow pads and I could not stand them for more then an hour or two pending my exact activity. They were just to constrictive when bending the elbows a lot was required. You might find them fine for you. Not much to lose at the price!

I had a large version, but it barely fit, so I got the XLarge version. It fit better, but still a by too tight. I may need an XXL. Other brands' socks and pads gave me no issues with their "Large"-sized products.Other than that, it's flexible, and I like the lightweight design. It provides surprisingly good protection while snowboarding and paintballing; even when i'm dropping down behind cover against rocks and all.

Good company (sending new replacement), great comfort and protection, but quality issues. The individual hexagonal padding elements detached from the fabric on one of the two, so I ended up with a bag of small hexagonal pads on my knee. I've owned them for about seven weeks and used them about five times (for about 2 hrs each outing) on my sailboat. After 30 days, I did not see an opportunity to get warranty replacement through Amazon (Amazon needs a warranty function), however to the credit of McDavid they are sending replacements at no charge. If those hold up I will boost the stars to five.

My son uses these for football and has no issues whatsoever. I’ve washed them with other clothes before and they are still holding up strong! I do not dry them.

I've bought multiple pairs of these knee pads over the years for wearing under my work pants. I crawl around on floors and repair appliances.They are light weight, comfortable and only make my legs sweat in the heat of mid summer. They start to slip down after I wear them for a week or 2 but washing and drying them shrinks them right back up to a tight fit. I can usually get 6-8 months of use out of a pair and that's with heavy, daily use.I've tried many other options over the course of 36 years and these are the ones I've found that work the best for what I do.
