Hello, this light controller can be used for fluorescent and led lights and is best used in outdoor.

Q: Will this work with a 250 watt halogen bulb?

Not knowing anything other than wattage I would say 'certainly.' These are often used for dusk-to-dawn operation of low voltage (12V or 24V) outdoor lighting that is configured in strings of 50W bulbs (often of size more than 5). So this application is typical. Of course, the voltage supply must be suitable for your light source--as the HGG is really functioning as an independent on/off switch based upon ambient light.
