Was nervous due to the low amount of reviews. Turns out it's because people are just missing out. Nicest chessmen I've ever owned, value for money or otherwise. The weight feels stable but not overdone, and they fit my tournament board squares (2.25") beautifully without looking clustered. The wood graining is stunning, and the gloss level is tasteful and understated. The craftsmanship is apparent, an incredible buy under $70 at the time of writing. The bag it came with isn't nearly as nice as some I've seen, but I've never paid this little for a set of chessmen this nice. Paired with a GSE "Mahogany and Maple" (sapele and Maple) board. Perfectly complimentary tones with the right amount of contrast. I can't speak for you, but I'm glad I gave them a shot. Pictures attached.

This set of wood chess pieces came nicely boxed, with each piece in a foam cutout. They are nicely finished, smooth with good details, and a slightly glossy finish. They feel great in the hand, with just the right amount of weight. Any more might be too much, but any less would seem too lite.... but these are perfect, with just that right amount of weight to feel solid and stable and not move around or fall over easily. I also appreciated that two soft drawstring bags were included. For me, this wood set represents a good solid value that I'll enjoy using for years to come. Highly recommended.

Beautiful chess pieces with great detail. The weight of the pieces is just right. They came in a sturdy box, nestled in foam - and with a very nice cloth bag for storage. My husband was very pleased as he had looked at many higher priced sets that weren’t as nice… definitely a great value for the money. They coordinate very nicely with the board we bought as well.

You'll love these pieces! I was blown away after looking for good pieces for so long. Great weight, feel, and size. Perfect for a 17x17 board.

These pieces are exquisite. The extra large size of the pieces allows them to fit perfectly in your hand and the weight of the pieces is perfect. The knights are unique and beautifully crafted. The pieces have a subtle finish that protects them, but is not overly glossy and allows the natural character of the wood to show. The squares on my board are 1 7/8" by 1 7/8." As you can see, these pieces fit that space perfectly. The only reason I rated these pieces low "for traveling" is because I would never travel with something so well made (and neither should you)...that's what crappy plastic pieces are for.

Killer wooden chess set. Nice set that won't break the bank. Feels good to push this wood.
