Love it, YOU NEED TO GET THE SOFTWARE IF YOU HAVE AN ULTRABOOK
Considering that there are so many new computers focusing more on compactness and slim profile, they sacrifice the optical drive. So the master plan is simple. buy one of these guys. They look really cheap looking at the box, but they do seem to be good quality. They're white with black brands on them.$$$ One thing to note however. Turns out many ultrabooks don't contain the software to play blu rays. So even if you buy the drive, you will need to find out if you have the software. Know that the drive comes with software, but I ordered 2 drives, and each came with a different size cd. I'm pretty sure that one was hand packaged. I wouldn't use this software. I would either buy some online (you save buying the hardware, so splurge on the software), or download some freeware. TO THIS DAY I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO PLAY A BLURAY. ONLY DVDS AND CDS. Do I really need a blu ray drive? No but its nice to get to use all the features no?

Its great!
When I received it I was a bit mistrustful because it have a bit cheap assembly, but when it was plug to my PC (it uses 2 usb ports, 1 for data and another for power) it did the job and I was capable to play an original Bluray Movie that I have. It came with a burned CD with a Bluray Player software, but I decided to use VLC and the bluray plugin (was a bit annoying to setup the requirements) but it worked.What can I ask for that great price ? a gold enclosure? No!, this is a great player.Pd: I bought this because I just build my new PC and its mainboard lacks of ide port and my old DVD drive was useless now.

Great Product at a Reasonable Price
Works exactly as intended on my MacBook Pro (late 2012) without the need for the 2nd USB-DC cable. I can read/write CDs, DVDs and play Blu-Rays on my optical-drive deficient MacBook! And for substantially less than the Apple Superdrive which I believe does not play Blu-Ray discs.

Lasted all of a week
Was able to read & play perhaps 20 DVDs before it stopped working altogether. Even when it was working it occasionally started making horrible noises/acting as though it was "stuck", requiring restart.

slow playback on 8
This was given great reviews by people so I was excited to get a blu ray player. First on windows 8 after buying this I found out you don't play it like a DVD player you have to buy software if you are using windows 8. So after doing that I am still finding that the video playback is slow and choppy. This is really disappointing because this was my main use for the drive. Not sure if getting another wire will help with that or not, I have both wires it came with plugged in. I'm surprised that the reviews people didn't seem to make that comment on playback, but I am on windows 8 and its really slow. Disappointing.

Worked once.
