I prefer upper outer corner of factory mirrors as that is the most least used in the field of vision. You may also notice thats the spot where manufacturers put the built-in type now appearing on some newer cars

can i go through a car wash with these on and not have it fall off ?

I've not been through a car wash with them. I have washed my car in my driveway with a hose and they've held tight. They seem fairly secure - in fact it would take a hard direct hit to knock them loose.

Do these hurt your hand?

No, there is no way I can see these hurting a hand unless you try to squeeze one in your hand to try and break it.
