Best cocoa powder
Not only does this have a gorgeous dark color, but it has a depth of flavor that you don't get with regular cocoa powder. This is the only cocoa powder I buy now.

Excellent Cocoa Powder
I was skeptical, I'll admit, but this cocoa is exceptional. I've tried Hershey's, Tcho, Ghirardelli, and so forth, and this cocoa beats them all by quite a long shot. Rich, complex, finely powdered, it mixes well for hot cocoa and baked and savory goods. I'm curious to compare it to Valrhona's own branded cocoa powder, but that is so much more expensive that I haven't justified the purchase in my mind as yet.Cocoa should technically be kept in a light proof container, but given the quality of the product I'm not too worried that it was sent in a clear bag. I've transferred the powder to a tin in my cupboard and hope that prior to sending it wasn't sitting on a shelf in the sun. ;)

Consistently terrific! Smooth, rich, cocoa powder.
(Please note: this product is shipped in a sturdy, sealed plastic zipper bag. Jar in photo is mine.) I've bought this repackaged cocoa powder several times now over the course of months. It is always outstanding quality. The seller reliably delivers fresh product with Valrhona's characteristic smoothness and richness.I use it for baking and I often add a teaspoon to my coffee. After first trying a can of the Valrhona-labeled product I tried this one for better value. I was hesitant about the repackaging but no worries were needed. To my best judgment this is the real deal! Will continue buying as long as needed and available :)

It's just cocoa, but it's the best cocoa I've had so far
You'll find other good cocoa powders on Amazon, surely. I've had several of the most popular brands you can find here. Some are organic vs not, dutched vs natural processed, etc. But this is clearly the best cocoa I've had yet. It's less bitter and has a cleaner cocoa taste compared to the others, even for the layperson's palette and not just those who are nitpicky.I tried 3 different cocoas side-by-side (hot cocoa), and this was the cup that you go "oh, that's the expensive one, huh?". For the premium, I think it's a reasonable splurge.

Compared with Scharffen Berger Cocoa
I tried each Vahlrona and Scharffen Berger separately on the same recipe for chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream frosting several times. My family and coworkes (and I ) were enraptured with the Vahloran's deep but still sweet chocolatey flavor. It blends VERY well, even in puffy cakes and whipped icings.Nobody complained about my same cake but with the use of Sharffen Berger, aside from all of the people who tried my cake with Vahlrona first. They said the latter cake tasted like i didn't put in as much love or that it seemed more like a box mix; I took offense to that, so Scharffen Berger will no longer be in my pantry. Only the Vahlrona unless I find something even better.Vahlrona does bake darker than most other cocoas I use. Your chocolate cake may border on deep brown to black in color, so people will both see and taste the depth of chocolate flavor. I haven't had any freshness problems as others have listed. I even had my Vahlrona bag sitting in the pantry for 6 months before opening as I continued to use up my old dutch cocoa first. It doesn't hurt to try a bag and test the difference yourself; you may find you can't tolerate Hershey's, Ghirardelli, or Baker's brand cocoas ever again once you elevate to this, though.

Serious about chocolate products
About the only thing I am serious about is cooking, and I seek out the best possible products. This has included unsweetened Valhrona cocoa for as long as this product has been available in this country. I have been able to buy it at one of the large national kitchen chain stores in Indianapolis, available in 12 oz. packages. The last package had a dull, flat, non-chocolate odor; I used it in some chocolate shortbreads because I thought I was imagining... No. the cookies tasted like NOTHING. I then tried this offering. When I opened the shipping box I could smell the chocolate aroma through the plastic packaging! When I actually opened the plastic bag , the fragrance of unalloyed cocoa was wonderful, and the resulting shortbreads were as good as ever I made. So: the freshness of this product, which is all-important, is unimpeachable. Two pounds is a lot of cocoa, but this bulk price is considerably less than the fancy-package price I was paying for a tiny amount. So the solution is to use more cocoa! I'm working on it.
