Very Good Knife Sharpener
This is a really good and easy to use knife sharpener. The way you hold the handle and press down on a flat surface gives it a very sturdy feel that makes it easy and comfortable to use. Also it has 3 sharpening slots that do their own specific job. I defenitely recomend this knife sharpener.

compact sized knife sharpener
The Ulwae knife sharpener is a practical, compact, and lightweight sharpener. The handle is easy to use, well designed, and well built. However, there are some 2 flaws that I need to address on this product. First, the sharpener is not smooth for cleavers when smoothing it out. It works for smaller knives, especially the “Alternate Fine Grinding” function. Second, the packaging, and instructions are ONLY in English. There is no translation in Chinese. My neighbors at the kitchen saw the sharpener I was holding, while making dinner. They wanted to know what it was, and how to use it. I had to use a Chinese- English translator app, known as “Mr. Translator” (owned by Tencent Technology), in order to get the point across. Lack of Chinese translation makes it hard to convey to interested customers and viewers what this product is. Apparently this sharpener is made in China, and a majority of the customers likely to buy this product will be Mandarin speaking. Finally, the packaging is solid and easy to open. Tightly shrink wrapped. Overall, I give this product 4 out of 5 stars. Good product overall.

Excellent Value for Your Money
First of all, just a couple of useful tips. When using this, make sure NOT to press down. Just slide the knife across. Pressing down may cause issues. Secondly, some reviewers were confused as to why the sharpening tool can be disconnected from the handle. I could be wrong, but I think the purpose of that is to allow you to decide whether to use it left or right-handed. By rotating the sharpener. Again, not 100% sure on that, but I had to use that feature to rotate it so I could use it right-handed and it worked out nicely, as you are supposed to hold the knife with your dominant hand (as per the directions). Now to the review: I'd been looking for a good knife sharpener at a decent price for a few years now. I had a couple of the "gritty" kind that were holding me over, until I stumbled across this one. It is exactly what I was looking for. Don't get me wrong, this isn't a sharpener that will give you the quality that a whetstone would. You're not going to pass the "cutting paper" test. But I honestly didn't want that. I'm an amateur cook at home. I have many times slipped when cutting or chopping food and nicked my finger. If I were using a professionally sharpened knife...yikes! On top of this, my mother, who is the best chef in our entire family, once told me she isn't a fan of sharp knives. And if she doesn't need them, then neither do I.With all of that said, back to this sharpener. It is going to sharpen your knives very well. If I could describe it, I would say the knives are about 25% sharper than when I first purchased them. They cut through the chicken I was cooking, better than any knife I've ever owned, but not as well as some really expensive knives I've used. They also chopped up the squash and onions pretty well. Not perfectly, but a large improvement over the initial state they came in.So overall, if you are just an average user like me, who isn't interested in dealing with a whetstone and also doesn't want to pay through the nose for a ridiculously expensive sharpener, then this is the one for you. The perfect balance of cost to sharpness in my opinion.I hope this helps you make your decision.

Poor quality
The cartridge broke where it fits into the handle the first time I used it. I had to spend close to ten minutes to get one knife sharp. There was metal dust all over after using it.It technically does what it’s supposed to. It’s possible that my struggle was due to having never sharpened a knife before but… I followed the instructions provided.

Great Sharpener for the Novice Chef
This is a great quality little knife sharpener that is light, compact, and durable. Not to mention that $5.99 is more than a fair and affordable price. Now for the features! First off, I have tiny hands and this tool fits comfortably in my grip and is not too bulky. Second, if you’re like me and have way too many kitchen tools than you need, you’ll be happy to know that this sharpener is small enough to fit in all standard sized kitchen drawers, unlike the expensive electric sharpening tools. Oh and guess what? It doesn’t need batteries! Just a functioning arm to move the blade across (and you don’t need to strong-arm it). Another feature I like is that the sharpening blades pop-off easy for cleaning. You can also quickly switch the orientation around for left-handed and right-handed users as needed. Now for the ultimate test! I was eager to use the Ulwae Knife Sharpener on some dull KitchenAid knives I had. Now, I don't take very good care of my knives at all. One knife had a few deep nicks near the top of the blade (see photos) that I was hoping to grind out. I slid the blade in each slot about 20 times and checked my progress. It looked like I was making some headway so I kept going. I tried counting to about 100 swipes in each slot but the nick was still there. It seemed to smooth out one nick but made the other a little deeper which bummed me out a bit. The center of the blade where most of the cutting action is felt pretty sharp so I chopped some carrots with great success. There were only a few problems I noticed when I first opened the box. There were quite a few scratches on the metal that might have been due to shipping but I am unsure. The other problem I had with it is the grip pads on the bottom. They are a little crooked but it didn’t seem to affect the stability of the sharpener (this can be a little scary if you’re sliding sharp knives around).Overall, it is a nice little knife sharpener that I would recommend to all novice chefs like me.
