Got rid of stray cats and dogs
I used this device to scare off the stray animal that had begun to poo next to my house. After a few days, I stopped having the problem. I continued to use it throughout the summer months. The only draw back is that the batteries do not last very long. An average of two weeks. But then I live close to a busy road and it may be that the traffic vibrations kept it on continuously. The range is great. I would say about 50 feet.**************** Update January 7 2013 **************************************************************I originally purchased this item in Spring/Summer 2012 and as I stated in my earlier review (see above) it has worked very well. I had it setup outside perched on small (4 inches in height) planter. It was exposed to spring/summer rains. And on one occasion black ants had begun to move in. I rinsed the ant's and their lave out with water. I left the unit out in the sun for several days to allow it to dry completely. I put in fresh batteries and it continued to work flawlessly. However, I don't know if it was the rinsing, the rain, ants, or to the colder weather, but the unit no longer works by batteries. I've had to use the power cord that is supplied with the unit. Unfortunately the cord is not rated for outdoor usage, and I did not feel comfortable having it exposed to the cold, frigid, wet elements of winter. So I've purchased a second unit, this time I purchased rechargeable batteries to defray the cost of replacing them every 3 weeks. Also, in order to protect the unit from the elements as well as the ants, I enclosed it inside of a large clear zip lock bag. The new unit is working fine. This product works, I'm glad that the price has come down to almost 1/2 of my original purchase. I added this update so that you will take precautions. I do have one question for the manufacturer, why would you include a power cord with an outdoor unit that is not rated for outdoors usage ????

Appealing product description-does not work for raccoons
Very appealing product description on how it will repel raccoons and other animals, but mine lasted 1 day. The raccoons that visit my yard attacked the unit, biting and clawing at it and destroyed it. I would think twice about purchasing this product for this type of varmint. I returned it in damaged condition, and let's see what happens...

I really wanted to love this but I just couldn't stand it any longer!
It worked...for the most part. Here's my problem, I live in a rural neighborhood where the neighbors cannot be convinced to keep their dogs in their own yards. Now, I'm not a dog hater, I have two myself, but they stay in the yard. One dog in particular loves to come over and dig and poop in my vegetable garden. i tried the smell sprays but they seemed to like that even more! I had high hopes for this!PROS: It did work and seemed to work quickly! The dogs avoided it and started protesting by pooping right outside the boundary.I loved that it had the different frequencies to ward off different animals and animal groups.I even liked the color because it blended quite nicely. The motion sensor was a nice plus and seemed to work well.CONS: As others mentioned, you are able to hear it, and it is LOUD. On the upside, I was able to adjust the frequency just right to where I wasn't able to hear it but it wouldn't last. I figured out that every time ANY moister came in contact with it (sprinkler, rain, mist, someone sneezed just right) the frequency would change and the whole street could hear it again. It wasn't as bad from the back, but oh man, as soon as I walked in front of it my ears hurt. This was the prime reason I had to send it back and it was such a disappointment because I loved seeing the dogs stay on the other side of the sidewalk. One of the biggest annoyances was the back cover. Because it is made to be resistant to water, they made the back panel extremely hard to get on and off and you have to get it off to adjust the frequencies, volume, motion, anything. I took off the back once and only managed to wrestle it back on once before giving up and pseudo closing it. The time spent between the sound and the trouble it was to get the frequency back to where it was silent, standing guard would have been less time consuming. The red light was annoying, but whatever, I was willing to put up with it if it worked.Bottom line is that it works but it has some significant design flaws. If they fixed the back panel issues and the frequency issue when in contact with moisture, I would buy it. But as it was, I had no choice but to return.
