The Art of Tapestry Weaving: A Complete Guide to Mastering the Techniques for Making Images with Yarn Review: A book I will refer to over and over again. - I am a fairly experienced weaver, who had never woven tapestry before. I jumped into my first tapestry project and had so many questions! I kept googling for answers, and most often Rebecca Mezoff's informative blog posts had the answer I needed. So I jumped on this book when I saw it was available. I can tell in my beginning tapestry project the point where I got this book and my work improved so much after that. Excellent information, clearly presented, great photos and illustrations. Well written, and well indexed also, if a technique from elsewhere in the book is mentioned, the page number is right there. I'm currently working my way through some samples to learn tapestry techniques and am very impressed on the way each new technique builds on what went before. I have another tapestry book that has samplers in it, but I end up referring to this book to really understand the details and nuances. I feel that Rebecca is sharing skills that will take me further on my tapestry journey. I want to say this book will have a permanent place on my bookshelf, but for now it is permanently at hand as I explore this amazing medium. Review: Outstanding book from an acknowledged master weaver - This book explains and illustrates all the basics of weaving pictorial images on a tapestry loom. It does not cover tapestry design which is a separate topic covered well by an almost simultaneous publication written by one of this author's friends. It's handy to have hard copy illustrations to accompany the author's many free online videos--sometimes you just need that clearly written print version. Concepts are presented in a good order and illustrated clearly. My only criticism is that I don't necessarily always want to go back (or forward) to page XXX to see the illustration of a key concept. I'm going to solve this by creating a photocopied cheat sheet of some critical illustrations I can tuck in the back of the book and refer to while reading or take to the loom. There are lots of inspiring photographs to make you want to start weaving right away. A must for the tapestry weaver's bookshelf.

Excellent Reference Book for Tapestry Weavers
In the Introduction to her book, Rebecca Mezoff writes that because most of us live in success-focused cultures, we expect that anything we try has to result in perfection. Tapestry weaving, she says, can help us to overcome this and instead encourage us to enjoy the journey. Sometime during the past two years, as I explored the world of weaving and learned basic techniques through online tutorials, I came across Rebecca Mezoff's blog. I fell in love with the idea of creating images, especially in small diary samples. This book is the best guide I could have chosen to learn more about this art---it is well-organized and includes a wealth of information. The photos are beautiful and the illustrations are a welcome addition to written instructions. The Art of Tapestry Weaving was a bargain at less than 25.00. I would have gladly paid more.

Excellent Book
This is a fabulous book! The pictures are Amazing and so much detail on techniques. Just what I wanted a course in book form!! I especially like that there are techniques for the hand-on craftsmanship, as well as information about the artistry and choices of color. Lessons on Optical mixing, color choices, and types of yarn are all included. Thank you for writing such an advanced book. There are so many beginner books out there, and this one is for the SERIOUS artisan, rather than another "project beginner book". I am already a weaver, but just a newer weaver to tapestry. I feel I can really advance by means of this boo.

A valuable resource for anyone interested in tapestry weaving
Although I agree with the negative comments on the impractical binding (spiral would've been perfect for use in following the technique instructions), I still give it five stars. The book is beautifully laid out and illustrated. The content follows logically, from the basics for getting started with tapestry weaving to ways to improve your technique if you already have a familiarity with the basics. I am currently taking Rebecca's Little Looms class and find the book an excellent supplement to it. I also highly recommend her free online "Change the Shed" videos to be able to see her practice what she preaches. In "The Art of Tapestry Weaving," she is as generous with her knowledge as she has been with her time during the difficult year of isolation for many of us. This is an excellent addition to any tapestry weaver's library.

Great explanations!
I’ve been weaving for about 2-3 months, and borrowed a slew of books from the library. My first month of weaving this book was too detailed; I barely knew where to start or what was important to know. HOWEVER, now with two months of experience, I absolutely love and appreciate all the details. It explains things I’m seeing and perplexed about- such as why my diagonals are sometimes smooth, sometimes not (hills and valleys). It provides methods to correct when I feel deadended in the wrong shed. There’s a lot of material that isn’t covered in other books. I read and read in the ferry line overnight in Victoria, and barely even walked around the city, despite the lovely weather and setting! I ordered the book that evening. Clear photos, explanations and so well thought out. I’m thinking of signing up for her online tutorials, to get the “3D” version.

Fabulous book
This book is chock-full of wisdom and information about weaving tapestry style. It arrived in great condition and has plenty of pictures to help with the information. The only down-side - it wasn't available in spiral bound so it would lay flat when open. My local printer fixed that for me for $5.

Fabulous resource
As a new weaver this is a fabulous resource. The author describes methods clearly and concisely in easy to understand terms. A great starting point for a new tapestry weaver and a valuable resource for future reference.

I make miniature weavings and I spent a lot of time looking for a book to teach proper weaving techniques. So far this is the best one I've ever seen: so thorough, from start to finish, with many, many tips and tricks only a seasoned weaver would know, lot of drawings and illustrations, a perfect teaching guide. My weaving has improved significantly since I started following these instructions. Whichever scale you choose, use this book as it doesn't go into some fancy yarns just to justify the lack of knowledge of advanced techniques while skipping the important parts. This book should be a standard for weavers, beginners and intermediate alike.

The description mentions the learning of Tapestry Teachniques. But the book contains no such things. You will be told about different loom, and which yarn to chose etc... But often it will not go into any details so you would be left with so many question. Nothing is really detailed. No techniques on different knots or how to get different rendering when doing tapestry (be it ancient or modern). There is also nothing new in this book. All the info can be found online. I do not find this book beginner friendly, yet very annoyign for someone intermediate too. As in, while it tries to teach you tapestry, you can see the person does not hav knowledge on how to teach. It tries to but fail to get to the point and you will want to fall asleep most of the time while reading. I felt I was going in circle. The books is not organized very well and the text contains a lot of repetition that goes around the subject without getting into it. It feels like the author wanted to stuff the books so it looks full of information, yet it does not and a lot of the content is "empty" words. The pictures are often very small and therefore you can't see the details of the tapestry. This does not teach you really to make your own tapestry but more present you to some basics in a very disorganized way and confusing way. I was recommended this book but I found it very hard to go through and read. I also am dissapointed what is described in description is not what is really talked about in the book. You would think with all the pages that you would learn so much but I did not learn anything from the book. Learning from a master weaver (with the actual title) or going online is a better approach.

Working slowly through the chapters which are well written and illustrated. Book is a quality product, made for years of future referencing. I rarely purchase hardcopy books these days but am very glad I invested in this one.
