Everything is perfect except the velcro strap
This mask is very impressive when you first take it out of the package. It seems very luxurious and well made, very soft to the touch, and feels good to wear. However, when you wake up from a long night's sleep, you notice this mask's one problem. The strap system. It's way too tight. My head is by no means huge, but I had to make it as loose as possible to keep the straps from digging into my skull around the ear region. It's not excruciating - but it's certainly annoying...especially when I am actually woken up from the pressure it is putting on my head and am forced to readjust the mask. Pulling apart the Velcro is a chore because of how strong and high quality the Velcro is. So one word of advice: make sure you have it fastened properly before you put it on to go to bed, or you'll regret it. You will be forced to be wide awake to fix the problem. And in my case, it takes over an hour to fall back asleep after being woken up...Aside from this strap issue, the rest of the mask is great. I love how soft it is, and I love that I'm able to blink without my eyelashes hitting against the surface of the mask. I also find it easy to sleep on my side with this mask on, contrary to what most people are saying in their reviews. That might just be because before I used this mask, I've been using a sweatshirt wrapped around my head as my old 'mask' - but either way, I have no problem with the bulk. It's definitely not like wearing "ski goggles" as some other people said. I think they just need to stop being so nitpicky and get used to it. It's soft, comfortable, stays put, and reduces light like it should. But the key word there is "reduces". I don't go "blind" when I put it on properly, and I don't think you should expect this either.I have a larger than average nose bridge, and even though the mask looks like it can accommodate huge noses from the product picture, I had my doubts from the get-go. And indeed, my nose lifts it up too much. This is where my major problem comes into play again - I have to fasten the strap tightly to shut out the light seeping in caused by my protruding nose shape. The tighter it is, the more painful. My girlfriend also tried it on, and she has the opposite problem. Her nose is too small, so even on the tightest setting light still gets in. I guess you have to have a perfectly average sized nose to have no problems with this mask.I still think it was worth it though. It blocks out well enough for me to sleep in the middle of the day during my graveyard shifts with windows uncovered. I'm not willing to go and buy every single sleep mask on the market over petty inconveniences. I'd rather adapt and make due with one that is high quality. And that's what I'm doing.

Perfect for day sleeping side sleepers
UPDATE:September 5, 2019. Finally time for a replacement...I have had this Dream Essentials sleep mask for 5 years now. I have used this mask pretty much every day/night for 5 years! I have machine washed it maybe 20 times and it always came out perfectly clean and no deformities. The cushioning around the eyelets have maybe lost some loft, but the mask still works well. I have found that the strap cuts off circulation to the back of the head if worn too tight, so I loosened it a bit which lets in a very slight peek of light but it isn't enough to wake me up in daylight. The strap cuts into the top of the ears, so I learned to pull the strap upward along the back of my head a bit awkwardly. *I would suggest to Dream Essentials to experiment with sewing the strap at a slight angle upward looping around the back of the head and maybe pad the place the strap goes over the ears.*The velcro is very strong and feels like ripping, when pulling apart to adjust. This has led to the final downfall of this mask and now needing a replacement. I have adjusted the strap maybe 5 times in the total time I've had this mask. Maybe it's the washing and the stress from the forcible pulling of the velcro to adjust, but the plastic velcro side has become brittle and little hooks have all but flaked off just this last week. So now there is no way to connect the straps unless I want to tie it or somehow fashion a buckle. (The fabric has a hole worn through over the years to expose tan foam where it rests between my eyebrows due to a Frida Kahlo sprout of wirey hairs. But the hole hasn't unraveled the fabric threads)OVERALL: This mask has served me well over 5 years. It blocks light completely with a nudge of adjustment, and is comfortable for side sleeping. It is durable, washes well and has remained comfortable around the eyes. I would recommend this mask and would buy again.ORIGINAL REVIEW:October 3, 2013I sleep a lot during the day and I wanted to finally invest in a sleep mask. I chose this Dream Essentials for the recessed eye wells. It is quite comfortable. I am a side sleeper. Some have complained about how a bit of light creeps in from the nose area. I think that probably will happen a bit with every mask. This mask works just fine and is snug and stays on all night through my tossing and turning. My only gripe is that the band that goes around the head should have some soft padding or something where the band goes over and past the ears, as this part kinda cuts into the tops of the ears and over a few hours can get uncomfortable and sore. Because of this I just pull the head band up a bit so that it doesn't rest against my ears.

Really good product not so good fastening
I was diagnosed with tension headaches and migraines in 2010 and my best comfort was an eyemask. I have tried several eye masks before; the 1st was a johnlewis basics, the 2nd a 3d eye mask that was meant to mold to your face and then this one however i ditched the 3e mask and went back to the 1st before trying this one. It lets in absolutely NO LIGHT and its SO comfortable!! People who suffered with headaches often have sensitive eyes and any kind of pressure is uncomfortable, but because this mask is designed with eye pockets and little flaps at the nose, its lifted away from your eyes so it doesnt make contact. The material feels so nice it makes you want to go to sleep. I was concerned that it would let light in because my nose is a little small but it didnt. The only down side to this mask is the velcro strap on the back, you have the normal strap and then the velcro piece is literally sewn half way off so after time i can imagine thats going to pop off. Its also a little bulky at the sides i often have to readjust it so it doesnt push into my temples.Having said that, my sister works night shifts and tried it and she loved it! Would recommend it again.

not for me
i have a neville clarke sleep mask which i have loved and used every nite for the past six years, no matter where i am in the world i use them. i did a lot of research and found dream essentials had great reviews on us amazon so i bought a pair. they are well made but they are uncomfortable on me and dig into my face when i sleep on my side. they are thickly padded but quite hard inside. for me personally i had to revert back to buying my previous band as they are very padded but very very soft and block all light.

Completely blacks out all light
This eye mask doesn't press against your eyeballs due to the way it's been designed. The build quality is slightly flimsy and I had to sew one end of the strap back on as it had come away.In the morning, I find that I have to pull the mask down a little bit as light is creeping in from the bottom of the mask. Otherwise it completely blacks out all light. It's still the best eye mask I've used though.

Pleased with this sleep mask
Pleased with this sleep mask. Comfortable to wear and very little light infiltrates thorough it. I don't feel it on my eyelashes and can open my eyes comfortably. I've yet to try it for sleeping after night shift but has been great this week whilst my partner kept the light on to read as I've been going to sleep early because of an intense driving course.

The mask is comfortable, blocks out light well and the eye cavaties ...
Out of all the sleep masks I've tested, this and the Stellar Dulux sleep mask come out on top. The mask is comfortable, blocks out light well and the eye cavaties are deep and spacious. This mask would recieve five stars if two factors were changed. First, the mask is still too thick around the sides for comfortable side sleeping. And second, the foam material on the inside could be softer and thinner, as pressure can be felt on the forehead.
