Polar Snow Products 12" Driveway Stake Installation Bit -Easily Install Your Snow Stakes in Frozen and Rocky Soil

This turned installing driveway stakes into a very easy task, even in frozen ground. It's the perfect diameter and length for installing them securely.

Had to install around 40 driveway marker poles. This bit worked perfect to drill the holes. Madde the job fast and easy and the bit was very reasonably priced.

I'll start off with the one thing I did not like and that is it has a round shank so you will need a drill with a chuck that can be tightened. Others have a hex shank, which I prefer. I'm a handyman and recently used this bit to install 200 markers in a small housing development. I needed to drill through soil, gravel, asphalt, and even some concrete in various places. The ground was not yet frozen, but I would imagine it would work well in frozen soil given the other materials I drilled through. The bit held up well, but eventually dulled after about 100 markers and I needed to change bits. The average homeowner will probably not abuse it the way I did and it will last much longer for them.

I used to pound holes for driveway stakes with a piece of sharpened rebar - and it was torture in my rocky New England soil. This drill bit sometimes does get stopped by a rock, but you don't spend much energy finding that out. Most of the time the rocks are small, and the bit can just be worked around it. I have a 1,200 foot driveway and marking the whole drive just takes a fraction of one charge for my Festool battery powered drill. This has turned a kind of miserable task into super easy, and I can almost always put the stakes pretty much exactly where I want.

Bit works great - I just need to find the right drill for it since my cordless isn't strong enough to make it work.

I have always hammered a rod 12 inches into the ground, pulled it out and dropped in a driveway marker, 20+ every winter.This tool made the job a breeze, I was able to install in a couple of spots that I couldn’t with the old method. I had them all installed in about 30 minutes, without taking a break. Sturdy, drill through concrete and blacktop.One con is it’s not going to make a true 1/2” hole. The 3/8 or 1/4” are no problem though.Definitely recommend to make the job go much faster.
