great reread
Rereading this book after many years, I am amazed at how it still touches my heart. A great story for young and old alike.

Sadly under-rated
Sadly under-rated, and nearly forgotten today, Mr. Kjelgaard was one of, and possibly the best, outdoor story writers in American history. And this book carries that tradition on.

Awkward start but it does improve
Books written at the elementary school level. The descriptions of animal behaviour and the mountain landscape are evocative but the dialogue sounds like it was written by the learning disabled subject of the piece. Calling an eagle’s young a kid is a poor choice. The idea of the great mastiff Caesar disdaining the idea of walking in circles to turn a spit but rather consuming the roast amuses. A fellow worker was dumb enough to leave a similarly sized dog loose in a house with a roast thawing on the counter with the inevitable result. The novella turns out to be an account of how the Alps got their famous St. Bernards.

Great story.
Unusual story of a boy who can't seem to find his place in the world until he and his dog travel together to a recue mission where they both find their real purpose in life. Although it was probably written with children in mind, it is a great story for any age, and would be perfect for reading aloud with your children.

Rescue Dog of the High Pass
I have enjoyed Jim Kjelgaard's books since I was young. He has the ability to write a book that is both interesting and readable. I would recommend this book to those who want to read about those who succeed despite a lack of interest school. It is a terrific dog story

Good read about a dog and his companion
Never heard of this author until I found out that my husband is a fanatic about his books. Downloaded to my kindle to try one of his books and thought it was an awesome read. Gave it only 4 stars due to the fact that the book is a little slow to begin and I had to force myself to sit and read it, but once it got started it turned out to be well worth the read if you enjoy adventures with dogs in them.

A new beginning.
The beginning of a new breed of dog. The St. Bernard a breed that to this day lives on in homes as loyal pet's and work dog's for the people. It was a very fascinating story, that was not only very interesting to learn how the breed got started.
