Pathfinder Player Companion: Alchemy Manual Paperback – May 13, 2014

So I got this book a few days ago. It covers spontanelous Alchemy which trades off ingredient cost to lessen cooking time, there are 2 new feats to aid your spontaneous alchemy. It covers various poisons and warpaints used by Orcs. There are poisons from Daggermark, Dwarven Magical Ales, Alchemy Arrows, Fungus Alchemy which is surprisingly more useful than I would have thought, there is one made with Mimic fibers that basically patches organic matter like wooden, paper, earthen, living or once living material. Homunculi alchemy from Lepidstadt, Ooze alchemy, Herbalism, Thuvian Wish alchemy which is for Mythic campaigns and Varisian fireworks.Overall I think the different kinds of alchemy add more depth to Golarion and make Alchemy itself more useful, there are many items at less than 50 gold that could be useful situationally however the number of items over 300 gold that are one use and only under very very specific are dissappointing to me. Some of those more expensive items I feel like you could acheive the same effect with magic item for less cost and that if they were supposed to add depth to gameplay and the setting doesn't add either if they are ignored for cheaper/other options.The Spirit Fireworks stand out to me as something relatively cheap that would have been nice to have in a place like Harrowstone, it hurts Ethereal creatures, and can blind them if they're light sensitive. The trick arrows are pretty cool, nothing really game breaking which is probably the best thing about a supplement is that you can allow your players to use it without wondering how they will use it. There are blinding, dazing, nauseating and other condition creating items in here and I expect not only are they good in their own right, but might be useful to soften up opponents before complimentary magic is used to push creatures into the next stage of their condition.

While this book is mostly a gathering in one place of special alchemy traditions associated with individual areas of Glorian, it is still interesting and could be useful to an Alchemist (either the class or just a person with the Alchemy skill) seeking to flesh out their character with a few tricks native to their home land. It is strongly suggested that some tricks in this book be kept for NPC's though, a few of them are kind of potent.

New source of alchemical goodies that Ultimate Equipment didn't include. It also includes a few things that go into an alchemist lab and rules on how to actually use that alchemy skill. Swift Alchemy is a means to create things on the fly and a power granted to the alchemist. If you like alchemists, and can get your DM to agree to let you use this book, then it is a must have. Although it is a little short.

Neat but i wish it had more alchemy stuff for alchemists, it has a lot of variant alchemy styles. couple new feats, nothing too out there but handy to offer a few more recipes.

This book presents a lot of cool ideas but most of them do not fit in with the typical campaign. I would only by this book if you are a dungeon master looking to spice up your NPCs as for players good luck trying to find a DM that will let you use the cool stuff in this book.

Absolutely needed for Alchemist. I would also get the Inner Sea Magic guide for some rules for guilds and advancements of them to complement this guide.

just what i was looking for

Bought as a Christmas stocking filler for my husband alongside another bigger pathfinder manual on weapons.He loves reading rule books to allow him to think up his own campaigns and ideas rather than being given already created ones, so this was just a wee extra. He surprisingly loved this one more! He enjoyed very much and has read it numerous times since. I would definitely recommend for those who enjoy new possibilities within the pathfinder series.

Great for the player who likes things to go with a BANG!

Excellent reference tool. Lists recipes and different play styles. Great accompaniment to any Alchemist.
