Great mute for practice.

It is very effective as a practice mute and it still brings out the musical expression. It can be applied on the viola as well if the size is not too big.

Feels solid but it doesn't fit in my 4/4 violin.

I wanted to play my violin w/o disturbing neighbors too much, especially since it has been a long time since I’ve played regularly. There are lots of off notes. This mute dampens the sound quite well.

Does an excellent job of muting the violin. Yes, it obviously affects the sound, but that's kinda what it's meant to do. Doesn't fit my electric as well as my acoustic but absolutely serves its purpose. Heavy, solid block of metal, so be very careful not to drop it on your instrument and destroy your finish.

I have to sons ages 3 and 5 which I'm only able to practice at night this damping the sound and tone without distorting it or altering any of the sound or performance. It is exactly what I needed to practice at night while keeping the volume of the violin at a reasonable volume while practicing. There were many concerns about the securement of this on the violin and falling of. Was very sturdy for me. Just use your brain and a thought process when placing and securing to the bridge and also when you play with the mute. And you will be fine.
