I bought this book as I wanted a definitive guide to all things outdoors and to cover things such as Kayaking paddling techniques, in a double Kayak who to be in the back vs front, what type of axe (splitting vs chopping) is best in which circumstance etc.The book did not go into the depth I wanted, but that said is a really nice book at a 101 level.I guess an encyclopedia in its truest form gives the history and an overview and this book does that well.It will be a book we have in our cabin and I will keep thumbing through on rainy days or as a first place to get an answer - I just wont have the expectation it will go into the full details on specialist subjects, but that's ok.

Bought this book thinking it is some survival book, but its not, seems more like a book with knowledge about stuff people do outdoors, info about guns hunting and stuff like that

Incredible amount of information. Unfortunately, despite ordering new, the book I received was clearly used. The bottom cover and first 20 pages or so were rolled and creased.The book itself is a wealth of information, great for a cabin coffee table, desk reference, or simoly something to read and dream about the outdoors with.

Great book. It has everything you need for hunting, fishing, boating, guns and other.

This book was a huge hit for my outdoor living nephew and then all the men were passing it around and not wanting to give it up. Should have bought several.

A great overview on outdoor activities/safety/preparedness. I enjoy picking through it. This book is beneficial because of its scope, but lacking in detail, which understandably it cannot contain. It is a great starting point for unfamiliar topics.

This book is AMAZING. It's packed with great material. The quality of the binding, the photographs and the actual print is top notch as well. This isn't a small or light book that you carry with you so it would be nice to see a Kindle version as well.

WOW this has everything you could ask for and more. This far, far, far exceeded my expectations. This is a very thorough and amazing book. everything you could hope to learn and then some. : )

I have the original and decided to upgrade to the new version. While I didn't find the new one to be as in-depth on individual subjects as the original, it is still a great reference, and well worth the money. It is not a how to book by any means but is a great place to start.
