If you like the Broadway stage Musical, this is a MUST HAVE
This edition is a reprint of the extremely rare "Annie: An Old Fashioned Story," and I am very glad to see this book reprinted for new generations of Annie fans young and old to read and enjoy! This edition includes a new introduction by author Thomas Meehan, and it's nice to hear in Mr. Meehan's own words how he developed the story of the Broadway Stage Musical (which of course was adapted for movie and tv in 1982, 1999, and 2014). This novel contains many scenes and characters which had to be cut from the stage musical, which are interesting to read and imagine what they might have been like on the stage. Many times Mr. Meehan cleverly adapts the song lyrics into his prose; an "Easter Egg" for those who know the Broadway songs very well. There are no illustrations in this book, which the original 1980 edition had, but maybe that is best so the reader is left to picture his/her own images of the scenes and characters. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book to any age fan of the "Annie" stage show and movie versions.

"Smile, Darn Ya! Smile!"
If you are an Annie fan, but you have not yet read Thomas Meehan's novelization of his own musical, believe me when I tell you that you owe it to yourself to do so. When I started reading this book, I figured I'd just be reading the musical in word format, but little did I know how deeply into the heart of the story it goes. Even if you are familiar with the Broadway musical and/or the three film versions, there is still so much more to learn about Annie. This book filled my soul with pure, raw emotion. It is ultimately a story about hope, destiny, perserverance, and spiritual guidance. I honestly did not expect for this to end up being one of the greatest novels I have ever read. Although, frankly, I should have.

It was hard to stop reading!
After watching the movie on Netflix, I became curious if a book had been written, since many movies had a bigger broader story that is only told in novel form. I was thrilled to find this book version of Annie! I didn't buy it right off, but after dreaming of buying it the other night, I finally did and I was not disappointed! This version follows the movie and play of Annie, but has more scenes and in my opinion, a better version of the ending! Having knowledge of these new or rather, removed scenes from the movie and play, give more depth to the story and interest to the character! It's an easy read, and a good read. Yes it's a bit expensive to purchase, for ebook standards, but it's worth it!

My daughter really enjoyed this book
My daughter really enjoyed this book. However, she is very fond of Ms. Hannigan. In the 1982 movie version of the Broadway musical, viewers see Ms. Hannigan, whose character has a change of heart at the end when she tries to save Annie from Rooster, at the celebratory party at Mr. Warbucks house; she's seen riding the elephant. Although I hardly noticed this detail years ago, my daughter noticed it and, thus, viewed her as a vindicated character. So, if your child entertains a similar perception of that character, they might be disturbed to see her in handcuffs being "sent to jail" with Rooster and Lilly. We just simply returned the book and purchased a used copy of the storybook, which accompanied the 1982 film.

Read before seeing the movie or play
I ordered the book because we were going to take our 14-year-old granddaughter to the musical. We both read the book, then gave it to her to read. The book adds a lot of depth and detailto Annie's story. I'm glad that we ordered it.

Good classic story for younger kids.
Bought it for our granddaughters (6 and 3 1/2) before seeing the play-gave them some background for the play. Good introduction before the play.

Amazing! Beautifully Written. 5 stars!
This book is wonderful! I just finished it and it was simply amazing. The story is beautiful and is written beautifully. The characters are great and you will find yourself laughing and crying. I picked up this book because I had heard of the musical so many times and decided that I had to read it. I am not dissapointed and it was everything I was hoping it would be. This book would be great from any one who can read but I think girls from ages 6-14 would enjoy this (I am 14 and I loved it, if you couldn't tell :D)Five Stars!!
