Vladimir Horowitz - Complete Original Jacket Collection

This re-issued box is self recommending. If you are a fan of the Maestro, or indeed, just a fan of great piano playing do not overlook this set. Even, if like myself you already own quite a number of Horowitz recordings it is well worth it to have so many in the one place - with some old chestnuts re-mastered. It enabled this listener to give some CD's to the local school and save some shelf space at the same time. I would also reccommend the Sony Masterwork box and the Horowitz at Carnegie Hall box.This is the first time I have ever reviewed a product and I will not trouble you with a technical critique as there are many others such as Hank Drake et al who can do this wonderful music far more justice with their words than I can. Suffice to say that this this a comprehensive sample of musicianship at its very finest and something that will kepp you happy for many years to come.

Thé sound is of course better than in most previous éditions (especially in thé RCA masters. But thé booklet is rather poor. Not à Word as to how thé box is organized you have to realize that by yourself. Mostly chronologically but not really that RCA archives did not help thé Sony staff Who did thé Best they Could. It is odd to see post 1945 compilations following late 70s albums (RCA) And if dates are given no locations for thé RCA sessions! Oviously Columbia had à more professionnal staff! Five stras (or more for thé music) much less for thé booklet. Sony has done better with thé rcent Live Unrelased concerts.

Sony, on the other end, has provided piano music enthusiasts with an absolutely "must own" boxed set....second time around! infact i am a proud owner of the Glenn Gould complete original jacket collection, where sony had in my opinion delivered a superlative product, and now, thanks to amazon, i managed to get my hands on horowitz the complete o.j. collection, at a price that delivers outstanding value for money.in a world and age of useless compilations we can now listen to the originally published/author endorsed music programs in 21st century audiophile quality.Sellers & delivery: 100% satisfied.

A must-have box set for any Vladimir Horowitz fan. The sound is very good, the aesthetics are superb, and of course, the piano playing is stunning. The box holds up over time, it is solid and the colors do not fade. A true gem, collector's item to listen to day after day.

Ottimo cofanetto. In pratica la digitalizzazione dei vecchi 33 giri, senza bonus.Unica pecca, la mancanza del doppio cd relativo al concerto di Berlino del 18 maggio 1986, edito da Sony e già in mio possesso. Il sonoro è ottimo, ben bilanciato e con una buona ripulitura sui dischi più vecchi.Pienamente soddisfatto.

A estas alturas, creo que ya muy muy pocas cosas nuevas pueden decirse sobre el Maestro Horowitz. Tenía bastantes cd,s, de Vladimir Horowitz, pero desordenados, y sobre todo, hace mucho que espera la re-publicación de este maravilloso cofre, Decir Horowitz es saber que , tras el primer instrumento más hermoso y perfecto que existe: la voz humana, el segundo es el piano y en sus manos es el piano en "estado puro". Tocado de manera muy "personalísima", siempre este viejo-joven sabía sacar de sus cuerdas toda la magia y las musas posibles y existentes. Con él el piano se convierte en la mezcla de la perfección y la poesía. A pesar de que algunos cd,s son muy cortos, por aquello de que tengan la misma portada que tuvieron los vinilos (algo absurdo, porque por detrás del cd podían indicarse más obras y así editar cd,s más largos). La re-publicación de este cofre, que es un tesoro para cuantos amamos a los más grandes artistas que lo tocaron, y tocan, con una maestría y magia que casi no parece real, por cuanto de "Arte", en palabras mayúsculas, contiene su quéhacer artístico, yo solo puedo hacer una sola recomendación, porque, como antes decía, del maestro Horowtz ya se ha dicho casi todo. Este cofre, dividiendo su precio por cuantos cd,s contiene, no resulta del todo tan caro y ES UN COFRE QUE CONTIENE , música para piano, o piano y orquesta, QUE SOLO POSEE "ORO". Interpretaciones de Oro de un Gran Maestro y de unos tiempos en los que hacer arte era hacer magia, y respetar y venerar a la música como una de las más fascinantes vocaciones ( y trabajo) que alguien podía tener. Hice el esfuerzo, y lo compré, porque ocasiones de poder adquirir tantas interpretaciones de un artista, tan extraordinario, en una sola caja, no se dan muchas. Si os gusta la música de piano, sumergiros en el apasionante mundo del Maestro Vladimir. Él nunca nos defraudará.

Vladimir Horowitz continues to be the most closely studied pianist even though he died in 1989. His entire discography is available today, and this set covers pretty much everything that was commercially released with the exception of the DG recordings. Hank Drake has done an exquisite job reviewing the set in detail, and I will not try to compete with his work. There is no need anyway, because the best point to be made is that any pianist, even those who hate Horowitz, would do well to study these recordings, made by a pianist who "played a principal role in the history of the instrument", to quote David Dubal. Music lovers in general should listen to these recordings, because the colors Horowitz draws from the instrument are beyond compare. Do not make money an issue in buying this set. It is worth the price and more.
