Is it possible to use this as a scrapbook? For example, can the pages be written on? are they just blank pages or are their picture holders?

That is exactly what this album is for. As the description says, it has "traditional cardstock pages with semi-transparent sheet between each page". This means the pages are blank pages of thick cardstock paper. You have to attach the pictures to the pages with either adhesive, tape, or photo mounts. Hope that helps. :)

how do I actually attach pictures to pages?

They have little things that look like arrows that you put on the corners of the pictures and those stick to the page. when you click on the photo album go all the way down to the bottom of the page and you will see various ways to attach picture. I chose the Gold corner holders because my picture are old.

Does this come with a box like your other products sold on amazon?

Yes, this leather photo album comes in a gift box just like our other albums. If you look at the third product photo, you can see a picture of the album in the box. Hope that helps!

Can this item be embossed with a name?

I didn't emboss this but it definitely could be. You would have to take it somewhere separate. It would look great!
