All my concerns disappeared as I opened the box.
I read the reviews on both versions of this controller. The ones that plug directly into the original Nintendo 64 console, and the USB version. The N64 version seems to mainly be praised! Works and feels great. The USB versions reviews were mixed and I was nervous. A lot of people seemed to be having issues with the start button opening up a Windows Menu. I also watched a video where the joystick would interfere with the left bumper. (Though that button issue was fixed right after the first batch and is no longer a concern when buying the product new)So thankfully neither of these were an issue for me! The packaging now comes with instructions that show you how to unmap the start button the controller from windows.. But I didn't even have to!When I first plugged it in, the default input the controller had was incorrect for the emulators I was running, no buttons would map. So I opened up the small and extremely simple instruction manual. The controller itself has macros to change the way the computer reads it. I just pushed down the C-Up and C-Right buttons for 5 seconds. Then everything just worked! The start button didn't pull up a windows menu. The controller mapped out perfectly in Project64.Overall, it feels leagues better than the N64 controllers. And since I'm using emulators on a computer, first party Nintendo controllers were never an option. Now for comparison I already had 4 Saffun USB N64 controllers that I ordered from Amazon. They look and feel like the originals, and they are less expensive and they work just fine! But they're not quite as sensitive. The joysticks have a bigger dead zone. Which in all honesty, won't be noticed in most games. But for some people, it's a deal breaker. So when I have people over for 4 player retro game nights, I break out the Saffun's. But for the single player experience? It'll be this Brawler64 controller all day long. It's just an all and all better controller.

Doesn't work with Mac
I will edit this review once I can get this working, but suffice to say it's not plug and play. I am using macOS 10.15.2 and OpenEmu 2.2 and the controller is not correctly recognized. It shows up as a "Pro Controller" in OpenEmu, but only the d-pad and joystick register input; all button presses are ignored. I will be testing this on my PC too, but if I can't get it working on *both* I will be returning it.Build quality seems to be like 6-7/10, it's not nearly as high as the original controllers. This may be a good aftermarket solution, I guess, but it's nowhere near OEM quality. The controller as a whole seems kinda cheap and does not look or feel like a premium product - for $30 it's not premium anyway, but don't expect the same quality as a DS4.Button layout seems comfortable, but since I can't get it working I can't say for sure. I am sure the N64 version of this controller has more reviews that would address comfort and usability.Anyway, I haven't been able to use this yet, which is unfortunate because I was very excited to get it. I'll keep trying, and I'll update this review once something happens. Overall I am very disappointed.

The controller is pretty nice. Shipping handling needs some work
Package arrived in the box pictured on here, no outer brown cardboard box. It was pouring rain the day it was delievered, and I was lucky the controller wasnt damaged because the box was completly soaked, and it was just a thin layer of cardboard. At least throw the product box inside a shipping bag or something.as for the controller itself, it works great on Dolphin. Got it to work on Project64 but the button mapping was a a bit messed up and took way longer than it needed. Buttons feel pretty good in my opinion. Quality of the build is similiar to the PowerA switch controllers.

Good not great; Needs improvement.
The Good:1. Works on Android (tested with NVIDIA SHIELD TV). Will likely work on any platform that supports generic XInput controllers.2. Control Stick is really not bad (worlds better than what we had 20 years ago) and is clickable.3. Plastic casting is nice and clean. Fit and finish are good.4. Input lag (in my particular instance) seems very good. I haven't measured it with high speed video or anything, but it responds a smidge faster than my go-to XBOX 360 and XBOX ONE controllers on the same emulation software (Mupen 64).The Bad:1. Case, while nicely cast, feels thin and light (feels fragile and cheap).2. Button membranes are a bit stiff and plastic feeling. Very playable, but could use some refinement.3. The D-Pad sucks. There's worse ones out there, but this one ain't good. It feels mushy and lacks definition between directions. Most N64 games don't even use the D-Pad, but if you're like me and you like duplicating your Analog Stick keybinds to the D-Pad for menu navigation in certain games, you will be a bit disappointed in this D-Pad.The Ugly:1-10. There is no start button. The button that says "START" on it, is a "LOGO" menu button, and will not function the same as a start button under any circumstance. Retro Fighters' solution to this is to allow switching to DInput, which has been deprecated and obsolete for years now. The XInput API has definitions for both a Start button and a Logo button (look at any XBOX 360 controller), so this is not an XInput limitation. Retro Fighters went to all the trouble of designing a new N64 controller, and they straight up omitted the Start button.Oh hey, and there's a Turbo button for some reason. Hey Retro Fighters, as long as you're adding buttons to the N64 controller, maybe finish adding the buttons that are critical for actually playing N64 games. Just a thought.I like this controller. I want to love it, but it's got some flaws holding it back. The Start button thing is unacceptable; The whole point of buying a controller like this (at least in my mind) is so the buttons on the gamepad match the onscreen button icons. I have to settle for all the buttons working in-game except START, which is a shame at best and unmitigated stupidity at worst. The build quality is a lot more forgivable for the 29.99 USD price tag at the time of this review. If you don't mind mapping the Control Stick click to START to make up for this moronic blunder, I would say the Retro Fighters Brawler64 USB Edition is worth the money they're asking. There's only a few other choices out there for a USB N64 controller, and this may well be the best one out there. It's definitely worth the 30 bucks; it just feels like a missed opportunity. It could easily have been so much better.Better build quality, bluetooth support, and properly implemented SEPARATE start and menu buttons would make this controller worthy of twice the price. Maybe I can hope for a Revision 2 model someday.

Not the best for PC
Couldn't get over the initial disappointment of the cheap feeling it has. Nothing authentic feeling about it.Second, the start button cannot be mapped to any emulator which is weird. Why do you think anyone would want this for pc? Also, the button combination for switching between xinput and dinput doesnt work. Tried two brawler64s on two different PCs. Overall, super excited and extremely let down. Returning both of them.

Retro Fighters Brawler64 USB Edition - Nintendo Switch/Mac/PC Controller
